I’m sure there are threads on this but what is everyone using for their stern anchor for when they anchor close to sandbars and beaches

I boat inland on the TN River / Lake Pickwick with either mud or rocky bottom. Normally back in a cove with 14' - 20' depth. Throw a river anchor with 4' chain off the stern and a small box off the bow. I use Danik hooks to attach to the bow eye and rear hold-down. Never moved.....but watch other poor souls drift by (hopefully not into us) when the wind kicks up.

I use a Danforth type anchor specified for my size boat for the back anchor (with 4' of chain). I purchase the same type but one size up for the front with 6' of chain. Never had an issue.

I have a Stick It Anchor Pin
I thought about getting these. Do you use 1 or 2. Assuming one, any issues with it holding? How far do you stick it in the sand?

Slide anchor, small size. Works great.

As a follow up on the Sand Spike, I purchased the medium - I have a T-top. It fits on top of the 5 gallon bucket (75 feet on line in the bucket) in the 5 gallon bucket hatch (next to the clean out hatch) on the swim platform on my FSH 19.

Danforth on bow and stern. Soft sand with decent currents and sea breeze. Never had any problem. Set the bow first, toss the stern, pull so both bow and stern lines are tight, tie the stern off, open a beverage and enjoy.

I use this and love it. Beach anchor with the slide hammer built in. It’s a bit long but fits under any seat and barely takes up any space

Just picked up a Mantus and chain for aft use to replace my 8lb danforth that would set 1/4 of the time and would let loose in the slightest winds... Use a 20lb box anchor up front now we don’t budge a bit no matter the bottom type below...

I only use one on the stern and use my danforth off the bow. The wind direction dictates which side I put the pole on. I usually get it 4-5 feet down, I keep a rubber mallet on the boat to really get it in there. I’ve never had issues and we’ve had steady winds of 15-20 mph on certain days. Shoot, my buddy with a 24’ Parker ties up to it too when he can’t keep his stern from swinging off the sandbar.

That's awesome! I like the fact you don't have to walk over or trip on the anchor/line. Leaves the back of the boat rope-less. How long is it? Do you remember how much you paid for it and from where?

Love the colors and graphics of your boat. Sharp! Thanks for sharing.

It’s 8-9’ long, we store it in the ski locker while underway. I found it at Bass Pro, I think it was $90 or so.

Makes life so much easier at the sandbar.

Second year boating and I just went through this decision making process last week. Where I’m at is mostly sand and I am not always at a beach/ sandbar, so I couldn’t do a spike, and ended up with a second Danforth after surveying the locals. I would’ve preferred a mushroom or river anchor from a safety point of view, but best I could tell it wouldn’t have worked well. My main one is a compact 8 pounder that is as big as fits in the locker, but I hope to make this my main anchor one day. Since I’m really concerned about someone stepping on it I got one PVC coated and a PVC coated chain. It is larger than my main anchor, but still 8 lbs. About as different as I could do is a slip ring, it won’t make a difference on the stern, but if I ever use it on the bow maybe I’ll see a payoff. (I also didn’t want to spend more than $150 for everything. )

I use a FX7 for the bow and the stern. Super light and set quick.

I was looking at these, but only saw them mounted with solid brackets And dismissed it because of wake and tidal conditions I have. I didn’t even think of attaching with a rope or strap. I assume you anchor in a sandy bottom Do you have tidal or wake to deal with and if so how does it handle it?
