So after 5 years of having our jet boat I accidently sucked up the ski rope for the first time this weekend. Couldn't believe I let myself make that mistake but I was so preoccupied watching out for the kids that I got complacent and forgot all about looking to make sure it wasn't under the boat before cranking up. At first, I thought oh well, I'll just cut it out because we have more and no big deal but then I realized I had taken the knife out of the boat when cleaning it last time and completely forgot to put it back in! So 1.5-2 hr later i was finally able to unwrap all of it from the shaft. Definitely won't be making that mistake again, knife is back in boat now (but hopefully won't need it)! Now I can fully understand the frustration of having to get a ski rope unstuck that I have heard all about.

Welcome to the club. It’s happened to most of us I’m sure. In addition to ski ropes, watch out for bow or stern ropes. I sucked up one of those before...

You must be the guy I stopped to check on while out on Wheeler Lake Saturday. About an hour after I pulled away I told my wife that I should have asked if you needed a knife. Sorry man, I have 2 on the boat. Now I feel bad for not thinking to offer you one.

You’re not the first, happens to most so don’t feel bad. Did you have to dive under the boat to do this or thru the ports in back?
Make sure you claim your 10 points on this site : )

@ndwiginton - After seeing your name here on the site, and that you're from Muscle Shoals, I think we graduated high school together.

I didn't know I didn't have one at the time yall stopped by because it was supposed to be in the boat. I appreciate yall stopping by and checking though. A buddy of mine showed up about the time I was getting done. It's all good....just a lesson learned the hard way which seems to be typical for me lol

Dang that sucks. I'm hyper aware of anything in the water but am also ready for "my time to come." I bought a dry box that has extra long needle nose pliers, a razor blade lock knife, and a carpet cutter (all recommended from this forum).

Don't worry...it will happen again. Count on it. My first was June, 2007. Second was circa 2015. Third???
