Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.
Ronnie, to many unknowns to give you an honest answer, if nothing else matters I would choose the 150 hours engines but any of the following could easily sway me to the other,
Is this a boat or PWC?
Price?
One owner unit or has it been passed around? Do you know the use, drunk, deadbeat son beat it or used by someone like yourself for family enjoyment?
Do you know the mtc history?
I think i know the answer so im just doing a reality check here.
The engines are both in waverunners.
The 1,052 is in a 2014 vx deluxe it has 750 hours all rental, $3000 wo trailer. 3 hour drive one way.
The 1,812 sc is in a 2010 fzr it has 152 hours from a single/original private owner, $6000 with trailer. 8 hour drive one way.
My family wants a bigger ski to replace or supplement a waveblaster ii (spark like size and performance) that we rebuilt to replace an fx cruiser we had (capacity for three, 140 hp). I want reliability as im am not looking for anything i have to wrench on other than for regular maintnenance but its hard for me to go down in hp from 140 to 110 although the top speed seems to be better on the vx than my old fx. At the same to time this maybe the last pwc i buy so it would be nice to have the high performance model of the line up.
Additional context: My ‘06 fx ho has less than 400 hours on it and I put about 300 on since 2010 and many of those accrued in 2010 and 2011. So estimate that we put about 50 hours on a year. This is not likely to increase even with a new to us pwc.
A rental waverunner? I'd steer clear if it were me. The VX isn't real powerful and you have to keep it pinned if you want to have fun IMO. Every one I've ever rented I beat on because...well they're rentals .
If you're just looking for an additional family cruiser PWC then a VX would be a decent choice but I wouldn't get one if it was a rental. I'm sure you could find a one owner that has been maintained better and give you a better piece of mind. I didn't know you had a waveblaster II. Those are great and fun PWC's back before they became land barges. Makes me miss my 96 XP Limited 800. Back then those craft were small, simple and you actually felt connected to the machine and what it would do. Nowaday they weigh a freakin ton, masssive and can't be tossed around like the older craft. To this day I say the X4 hull was one of the best of all time.
The rental place's mechanic made it clear that its a rental with cosmetic blemishes but that it runs perfectly. He went on to say that they may have some spare parts for me if i buy the ski. If its in perfect running condition what spare parts do i need? They should have a good idea of what tends to break. They invited me to drive it and / or compression check it this friday but i have not decided if i will or not yet. 750 hours is a lot no matter how i look at it.
I had three four seadoo pwcs, three with the 787 cc 110 hp engine and one with the 135 hp engine. I liked the 97 spx on the x4 hull the best. I couldn't get the 99 xp limited to run without rebuilding the top end and possibly replacing the crank so it was doa and i took a small loss on it after my local shop confirmed its condition. Now my family wants to go big again so more people can ride at the same time and we can go on longer trips. The newer yamahas have 18.5 gallon tanks thet take all day or weekend to burn through. My sons waveblaster ii can burn through 10 gallons every two to theee hours of use.
