Same thing happen to me yesterday. Ended up using my cut up pool noodle that I normally keep in my table legs holder to prevent water from pooling. Held up all day yesterday on the water.
I agree with @Monterro the pool noodle is simply the best overall fix for most "rubbin, bumpin & pluggin" issues.
Ps. If you order a new cap from a Yamaha dealer,make sure to order the "gasket" too. When I ordered a spare years ago it was actually two pieces. The cap and gasket.
