What is normal for the throttles on these boats? Right now, I need to manually hold the throttles if I want them to be at a specific RPM. I may get lucky if I go over by 1000 and then pull back but they probably won't be even. If I tighten the adjusters at the base of the throttle, things get tighter but it is not even at all RPMs. It is super tight at the high RPM and loose at below 5k RPM. Is there something I can replace inside the throttle that will make this better?

Also, My throttles are super sensitive at the lower RPMs. I seem to go instantly from idle to 5k rpm. There is a big dead area just after it goes "into gear" and then a fast jump to 4k rpm unless I push slowly over a 5 second period to find the start of the engine throttle movement. My new shifter and throttle cables are not tight. I assume that the dead area can be adjusted correct?

thanks

As @Scottintexas said, this is a common issue with the pre 2010 boats. The link he provided you is worth pursuing if you want to resolve the slipping issue. One thing I do to try to avoid the sudden jump at low rpms is to twist my wrists left and right as I slowly advance the throttles. This helps to walk the throttles up rather than causing them to jump. I also added the Throttle Sync which is merely an OEM looking cover for your existing levers. These allow you to lock the two throttle levers together using a thumb latch. At first I thought they were a gimmick but I've had pretty good luck with them.

Your throttles should hold at all rpm's, unfortunately it's a common problem, we had a member come up with an inexpensive fix thought, from our FAQ

You said your "NEW SHIFTER AND THROTTLE CABLES", have you changed them recently? did you do it or the shop, it could be more issues than just loose throttle,

Thanks for the link. I will check that out when I get a few. I recently changed one of the shifter cables myself. Too bad I did not take the shifter apart then. The other cable is still good. The throttle cables are original and still in good shape. I should have said "good" throttle and shifter cables.

x2 on the wrist-wiggle on moving from idle to power. There is a long dead-space in the throttles on my boat, but once it's moving, the throttles stay put. My port one does tend to drop back 200-300 RPM when I release it but it hasn't gotten bad enough so that I want to tighten it up.
