This reminds me of Wisconsin's implementation of its version of the "cover your load law."

WI forces all dump trucks and similar to have tarps to cover aggregate loads like gravel, sand, etc. from raining on the cars behind them (and spilling out into the environment).
However, WI has nobody enforcing this law and, apparently, never intended to. Let's add all the cost without any of the benefit. Yup, sounds like a plan (eyeroll).

I'm hopeful mine will do it, they pass my Dune Buggy every year, so a trailer "should" be a piece of cake.

The answer is yes Cory. All they do is make sure your brakes and brake lights work. It only cost $7-8. I've gotta do the same with my camper.

How do they test the brakes? Pull the power and try to back up?

I'm not real sure. My father in law just had his camper inspected and he was told to use the trailer brake controller override lever to stop the rig. Ours are obviously surge so you may be right about pulling the power and backing up an incline.

Will any inspection do this? Seems like a bit of a PITA but it does make sense to keep junk off the road....

Call ahead and check before you go. Not all of them will do them or even know what to do.

I just did this yesterday to get my registration renewed. I called around. There were a couple of Valvoline Oil change places a little ways from me that did it, and I ended up finding a local owned auto repair place closer. Took longer for the guy to enter the info in computer than the inspection. If you look online it has the details. Lights, safety chain, break away brake cable, brake system. Pretty much it. GVWR of 4500 lbs or greater...not all trailers but obviously our boat trailers. I was told you have to show proof of insurance on the tow vehicle but they didn't look.

Go to a mom and pop and the might just not even look at it. That was my experience.

Well I got the trailer inspected this morning. Super easy to do. Went to a small place in Pottsboro near Texoma. The gal had me drive forward ten feet and stomp the brakes to see that they did something. we checked the lights and showed her my truck insurance. She got the trailer vin and make and input the info to the computer. $7 and ten minutes. It was a nonevent.
If any texoma boaters want the info on where I went, let me know. It was about a mile from Brookshires and right next to police and fire stations.

I'm taking mine to a local place here in Kaufman in the morning. Then I'm going to get one of the wheel bearings repaired by another local business because I'm tired of constantly having to add grease to it. The rear seal seems to be the culprit since there's grease inside the wheel.

I guess it's about time I switched mine to TX plates, I found a place a few miles from my storage lot that does trailers. Sucks that I have to get my camper out of the storage lot to get it done, it's in a different storage than my boat and a pain to get in and out of its spot:-/.

I talked to the guy about doing my truck as well, he said we'd have to unhook the boat and pull the truck inside and then he takes it for a drive down the road to for the inspection:-/ I had no idea the vehicle one would be that involved.
