I am finally saying hello after stalking this site for the last month and deciding if a jet boat was for me. Had a bad first boat owning experience with an old Bayliner before I knew my stuff. Looking for a Yamaha 2006-2009 230HO(SX or AR) or 212X. Impressed with how informative and helpful everyone is. Looking to do some boating as a young family in northern IL on the Chain o Lakes and up by Pistakee Lake.

Thanks for the invite, that would be helpful. Do you find any issues navigating the Fox with a jetboat? That was one of my concerns with some of the more shallow, murky areas. Are there any particular places you like for servicing a jet boat in particular in our area?

I tried searching the forum and didn't find anything regarding payment for boats in 3rd party sales. What is the general rule on how to pay for a used boat after inspecting it and agreeing to purchase? ie) cashier's check, money wire, 3rd party escrow websites)
Just curious. I know it is whatever both parties agree to, but wondering which way most of you have found success.

Cash is king my man but as long as funds are verifiable most other methods will work.

Like @robert843 mentioned cash is king but some people don't feel comfortable carrying a large some of cash around. Cashier's checks are typically good but one thing to watch out for is that if the receiving bank doesn't know of the issuing bank, i.e issuing bank is a small local to you bank and you are a good distance away, the receiving bank will put a hold (up to 7 days) on that check until it clears resulting in a possible delay in getting the boat after making the payment. Wire transfers are always good unless you are doing the deal on the weekend unless both banks have Saturday hours. To me the key is knowing exactly what you can afford and having the money/loan already secured before going to look at a boat. As for a loan you won't know the exact specifics for the actual loan but your bank/credit union can pre-confirm you for a certain amount and then once you find a boat the loan will be issued to you assume you aren't over paying for the boat.

@Foot55 Welcome!! You'll find this forum a great resource and those that supply it, outstanding! I'm in Round Lake and frequent The Chain and Lake G. I've bought and sold many jet boats and if you need any help, feel free to reach out. I have a pretty flexible schedule and can help you out if you find one or need any additional help. Earlier this year, I sold my 2010 242 Limited in 8 days and bought the new one same day as the old one was delivered. Last year I helped a buddy buy his 19 footer and then upgraded this year to the AR210. This year helped a buddy buy a 19' Chap, and I got another buddy in the process of looking at the SX210. I have a great relationship with the local dealer, if you ever needed.

As far as payment, I'd only accept 3 methods. 1. Cash 2. A cashiers check that I witness being drawn in person inside the bank 3. Wire transfer.
