My Yamaha AR to 210 2021 my steering is tight I’ve lubed everything the cable seem to be going in and out, but Rutter I can’t move manually outside the boat. I don’t see anything physically wrong with the boat it only has 20 hours on it. Why wouldn’t the rotor be able to move freely? The only way I can make a full turn wire running the boat is to use my thrusters. Help !!

To the op, if you really have a a brand new boat and it won't turn the rudder, call your dealer. You should need to lubricate nothing.

@anmut agree Seems like the sentence construction is almost a bot or maybe from another country. Almost doesn't make sense

Wait, you've never had your rotor not make a full turn wire on your AR to 210 2021 before? Bro, do you even OWN a Yamaha? :D :D

He is from central Florida. English is a second language for sure.

The rudder takes a good bit of pressure to move by hand at the rudder. Does it turn all the way left and right when you use the steering wheel?

they don't make a 2021 230 in the first place

This is not a spam post, I know the guy and his boat. He probably used talk-to-text or something that made him sound like a bot. He lives near me, I took a look at his boat this past weekend. There is definitely an issue with the steering on his 2021 AR210, feels like something may be binding in the cables. The articulating keel and cables do move but it's way harder to turn than it should be. There's nothing obvious that I could see that would be binding the cables or making the AK extremely hard to move by hand. Greasing the cables helped a bit but it's still super tight. He did call his dealer but it's 4 hours away and they have a longer backlog so I think he's just looking for any other ideas on possible causes/things to check before he's off the water for a month or more.

Alright cool!!!

Did you take off the tie rod to the AK to see if that helped? At least you can start eliminating things. See if the AK binds or moves freely at that point, then start working your way back. That is how I would start.

When I looked at it, it does fully turn left and right with the steering wheel but won't budge when you try to move it by hand. My 2018 AR210 takes some pressure to move, like you stated, but can definitely be moved back and forth by hand without a ton of effort.

We didn't get that far into it, I just showed him where to grease the cables to see if that would help (this was Saturday night after a long day on the water).

^^^ this would be the first thing to try.
@Cobra Jet Steering LLC posted somewhere on adjusting the alignment, I would follow that, but it could quite simple.
Or - not.

Fair enough, we've confirmed he's not a bot. Unless the guy that confirmed it, is actually a bot too. AHHHHH!

Sorry, anyway, yes - try the AK by itself to make sure it moves freely. You may want to have him move the steering column up and down with the adjustment lever to make sure it's not a setting. Then, have him check starboard side storage compartment, make sure he didn't lay an anchor on his steering cables or that they're not bound up somehow.

Almost sounds like the AK got bent in shipping. Look carefully at that aspect for bend, scrape, etc.

I have heard of the bolts holding the helm assembly together coming loose but as was suggested disconnect the tie rod and see if it moves ok if not disconnect the steering cables from the steering nozzles and see if the nozzles move ok and if the helm moves ok I have seen a ton of thread lock spilled all over the tie rod ends actually gluing them but it is a process of elimination

My 2018 steering is extremely tight but it’s all in the cables/helm.
The rudder and nozzles move very freely when disconnected. I can’t imagine how those parts would get tight without some significant damage or corrosion since they have so much clearance in the pivots.

Yes and most likely this is the case but how did you find out where the issue was ? same here process of elimination and I would tell you the same thing check the helm where it is bolted together and see if some of the bolts are loose.

I unhooked the cables and everything out back moved freely. Plus I can hear the groan in the helm when I turn.
I tried lubing the jet end of the cables with silicone but that didn’t help.

may just be the bolts loose if you can get to it behind the dash

This can happen if the cables in the helm are impacted. Like by them being moved or bent or putting something in there against them. I would check that they don't have a bad bend in them (they may have put something in there for shipping) particularly behind the helm there.

Thanks Cory for the explanation, we were on the boat talking and texting, auto fill is not your friend when your on a boat trying to post a question. Rough crowd. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be sure to use proper grammar from now on.
