I am thinking of installing some tower lights for the purpose of boating at night (out in the lake, not near docks).
Should I go for white lights or red lights?
For one... definitely not red. Also having other lights on besides your navigational lights when boating (unless anchored/docking) is illegal and extremely dangerous. If other boats cannot see your navigational lights (which adding other lights will make them harder to see) you are asking for trouble.

I put a 50" n my Viking and is bright as day. Cost 50 bucks. You can't even tell the brights are on when it's lit. I was thinking of adding one to the tower.

The thing about bright lights at night is the impact on other boaters. I once made the mistake of turning on my spotlight at night to see what was in front of me on the river. It turnt out I pi--ed off a tugboat captain, I am sure it was because he lost his night vision, so he taught me a lesson by turning on his spotlight. So now i am very cognizant of using lights at night when boating.[flag]
