I am in the process of trading in my 2015 AR190. It was purchased in 2016 and is still under warranty. They are telling me that the starter is on it's last leg, but that it wouldn't be covered under warranty. Has anyone else had a similar issue? If so, was it resolved?

Is that the only reason you are trading in the boat? If you check out the FAQ section of this site you can find all sorts of helpful articles. Starter replacement looks pretty straight forward if you have some mechanical skills and tools. I'd love to know why it is not covered under the warranty. You may want to check with another dealer.

Warranty coverage is mostly on the dealer when the part has technically not failed. If it was not operational, it would easily be covered. The dealer is the one that describes the issue for warranty claim. So they need to pull some weight when it gets down to it.

Otherwise, if they are holding your feet to the fire, a starter swap is cake, do it yourself.

We are upgrading to a 242 lse. They did an evaluation of the trade and that was the one thing that they found.

That is what I am leaning towards, we'll see how long they are willing to wait to close the deal. Since it is under warranty for another year, I'm not sure why they won't just move on knowing it will be covered if it fails.

Exactly, warranty follows the Hull ID/VIN, not the owner. They are looking to make some margin, that's all. Something may need to happen to the starter. Pull it and put some 110v to it. See if it's "failed enough" to be covered by warranty. HA!

How did they test for a "failing starter" ? In all my years of owning cars and boats I've never replaced a starter.

My first thought is also, "they're just trying to steal money with a cheap ploy" but occasionally a starter does fail,

Have you had any trouble starting the boat previously?

I would ask how they diagnosed it was on it's last leg,
