Tunnel repair

Just got my boat back last night. Couldn’t be happier to get to work on it.




I decided to go with a professional.

First was clean all the hose barbs. Salt and corrosion.

I did exhaust. Clean outs. Mid bearing.

Then I installed the intake grates. I used silicone to seal them. After this season they are coming right back off so I can refinish the ride plates.

One last task for the day. Put starboard exhaust mid pipe back on. Note alignment up. Arrow for flow direction. Only one side of the rubber has a groove for the inside pipe.

Looks good. How did that happen?

Rope cocooned up shaft and cracked the putty a previous owner repair. Don’t know how original damage was done

Not sure how silicone will hold up. I’ll keep an eye on it

I had to seal up some missing/loose sealant in my grate/tunnel and used regular household clear silicone as a temporary fix to see if it solved the cavitation issue, that was seven years and about 300 hours ago,

Got the boat back together. Water test not good. Cavitation and vibration. Have a beer and back to shop. Pull pumps

I took port side pump off. This time I removed the pump housing. My fiberglass guy told me he had to remove the ride plate to repair tunnel. Not thinking about it on first assembly. This time found no sealant between ride plate and transom plate. That’s right in front of the impeller. Hope this was my cavitation cause. Also impeller has a slight rub on plastic pump liner.

No sealant is most definitely an issue. Slight rub on plastic wear ring liner - probably fine, the Seadoo guys actually like it this way, the impeller curves it's own slight groove that makes the gap very tight (good for performance) - if it is centered and you can turn it, I would leave it alone I think.
