Rookie mistake Yamaha 252. I was cruising out of my marina at no-wake speed. Still not familiar with the connext screen, I did not realized I started only the port engine until I came out of my marina into the end of the no-wake zone and opened up the throttle (6-7k RPM) and found it very difficult to plane. I tried twice WOT (6-7k rpm ), unable to plane, and then realized I looked down at my dash that I only had one port engine on. I started the other motor (strbd) the boat ran fine. I did not think about it till I got home. Should I be checking the oil tomorrow for milky white oil to rule out possible water intrusion? I don’t think I ran more than 1-2 minutes max at the wide-open throttle on a single engine. Yammy Gods, please forgive my stupidity as I learn this fantastic watercraft!

You should be fine. If you hydro locked the engine and tried to start it it would of not started and most likely destroyed components.

Check the oil to give yourself some piece of mind.

Thanks Charles… If there was water in the oil would I noticed it on the dipstick or do I have to do a full oil change? Totally need to hook up with you on lake Saint Clair before I do some damage lol

I agree, sounds like it didn't get a chance to push water back up the exhaust. Since you pushed both throttles thinking both were running, you opened the pump with the raised reverse bucket, so water pressure would be lower. Check the dipstick as suggested and if no milky colour, you should be fine.
Here's a check I do when I fire the engines to warm up - look over the side at the pilot outlets for a steady stream of water. You have one for each engine and if one isn't streaming water, you have a problem. Another thing I do is fire up the engines and shut them down in the same order every time - creates a pattern for you to easily remember.

It takes a while for water to work back up to the engine so as everyone else said you are fine,

I ran one engine for about 5 miles at 10mph.......no issues

Takes a long time to push water back up the exhaust. You are fine.
