Had a terrific weekend exploring a new lake (Possum Kingdom Lake) and messing around with our ballast for surfing. We bought the same bags that come installed with the wake edition boats (2 x 425# under the rear facing seat and a 750# in the ski locker. I also completed a DIY version of the Delta Wakesurf device. We were getting a decent wave, but just wasn't pushing hard enough. Especially when it's just the wife and kids with us.

I moved the 750# to the swim platform and the results were much, much better. I'm thinking about getting another 750# so that we can have one in the ski locker and one on the swim platform.

This is a video of my boy that has only been surfing behind our boat since the 4th of July weekend. Granted, he's decent at wakeboarding and learned to surf when we lived in Hawaii, but, man he makes it look easy!

What is your diy delta device? I have seen the 2 skate ramps velcroed to the side on other sites.

So is that a handle for glass or moving floor tiles? Does it do much even with all the jet wash?

It's a COSMOS ® Heavy Duty Aluminum Double Handle (2 cup) suction cup plate/pad for lifting/pulling glass+ COSMOS

It makes a considerable difference cleaning up the wake. I put it opposite side of the surfer. Well worth the $40 I spent making it.

Very clever!

Took me a minute to realize what the support structure was, very nice. What did you use for the face material? Any problems with it detaching?

I used Seaboard (https://www.amazon.com/Seaboard-Den...=UTF8&qid=1470752025&sr=8-4&keywords=seaboard), but others that have made these have used 1/2" thick plastic cutting boards. It's a pretty easy DIY and it's pretty amazing that the Delta brand device is $500 when I put this together for about $40. Seems like it's way over priced and I probably would have bought it if it was in the $100-200 range.

No issues with it coming off at all and a lot of the times I can only get one of them to seat completely due to the shape of the hull. I've used it on about 10 outings and it hasn't fallen off or moved out of place once. I have a portion of a wakeboard line that I attach to the cleat. It's long enough so that it won't hit the boat if it does come loose (I don't suspect it will... the suctions are legit) and short enough so that it won't get sucked into the intake. The tether is there more it not sinking by my dumb a$$ not dropping it into the lake when I'm attaching it or removing it.

How did you decide what size to make the face? This obviously is an intriguing idea that wouldn't require much investment.

Great idea using the suction cups for glass. I have floor tile ones (work) and they are not robust enough or have that much suction. The glass one looks great. Cam.

Totally stole the idea from a DIY project from another forum. I did exactly what they did. 6" x 12". I wish I could remember what forum it was, but I can't . . . sorry.

You definitely want to use the one that I mentioned above. In the forum, people tried to use the plastic, cheaper ones and they would not stay on their boat after a few uses.

Are those just two black L brackets that have a curved crossbar for extra strength?

Has anyone tried this on a 24' Yamaha? When I surf behind my 242x with all ballast tanks full the boat still plains off so the sides of the hull are above he waterline even down in the 8 to 9 mph range. Do the Scarabs not plain off at surfing speeds?

They are shelf brackets... :)

I can put it on low enough that it does the trick with about 1750 lbs of ballast. It worked much better when I put the bag on the swim platform.

Got it thanks! Yeah shelf brackets is a much better description.

@ZIRB3L may want this and build one for me too!

Great job man!

Nice 255, I'm still trying to figure out how mine came with wake edition tower, I wanted the tower like you have?

@FlyNavy76 I am curious if your depth finder works at all speeds or only idle ? Mine gets flaky at speed and my dealer says its normal but my 195 worked at all speeds.

It does not work at all speeds. I usually notice it starts to go out at about 30 mph or faster. I was surprised during the test ride, but they said that was normal at the higher speeds, too. I think it's weird because my Sea Ray 200 BR that I traded in worked at all speeds. It really doesn't bother me too much, because if I'm cruising that fast, the depth finder is going to be of little to no use to ave me from hitting something below the surface. I feel that the DF is of much more use at slower speeds when I'm unfamiliar with the area.

Thanks for the reply. You chose an awesome boat by the way. I am going to have 12 people on mine tomorrow ...

One more quick question for you, does your engine hatch ever open while trailering? Mine has done it a number of times and thankfully at slow speeds
