Just got a 2021 Yamaha 212 XD. I have ordered the Fatsac for the transom. I got a board from the dealership that is 5‘9“. now I’m looking to get a board for my wife. She is approximately 5‘6“ and 125 pounds. She is also a new surfer. Any recommendations on boards?

What board did you get? I'm not an expert but for our boats the Slingshot Coaster is usually the go to. Have her try out your board first and see how it feels

We got the Landlock 5.9. It’s worked good for getting up easy. Neither of us can get even close to ropeless behind this boat yet. Waiting the the 725# transom fat sac to arrive

Hey @Speedyjunk,

Congratulations on the new boat! I started drafting this yesterday morning... its hard to catch a break. My guess was the 5'9" board was probably a H/L Landlock. Not a bad board, but I think your instincts are right to shop for a board for your wife, it's a pretty oversized board person 125lbs. I think you'll find that's the case as your skill level and wave evolve.

I have a side hustle as a watersports dealer. We are a dealer for Slingshot, O'Brien, JetPilot and a couple other brands. The board I'd recommend for her is the Slingshot Coaster 5'0". The Coaster was co-developed with Yamaha for use with the WakeBooster package. It's proven to be a great board for beginners and one that will progress with the rider. It has proven itself to be a great board for our Yamaha wave's. It's been our best selling board for the past 3 years. It would be a great fit for her.

Inventory is slim. I have a few Coasters, but the best value is on the 1 remaining 2020 Coaster XR I have left. The XR is the lighter weight carbon fiber construction version. Slingshot has gone all XR construction in the 2021 models, so it's essentially the same board just a different color and a great discount at $490.99 vs $640.99. Although if you want the best price on a 2021 shoot me a message and I can give you the unadvertised price. Shipping is free in either.

Let me know if you've got any questions.

Thanks for the tag @Crob83!

I sent you a message to check the prices. Thank you

I highly recommend both the Coaster boards and @J-RAD ! I’ve bought from him a few times and it’s always been a great experience.

I have the Coaster 5’3” board for myself and it does really well behind my 19’ boat.

The 2021 board sounds like it comes in a couple smaller sizes as well. I don’t care about 2020 or 2021 board, I just want the right one for her. Like I said she is a brand new surfer, 5’5” and 125 pounds. Our 212X makes a pretty small wave although it should get better with the 725# fat sac that just arrived today. I do have the wake booster attachment.
Would you still recommend the 5’ board or is a smaller one better? (4’8”)

Also with stock ballast and the fat sac on the transom. What is the recommended stock ballast tank settings? We both surf goofy footed. I am 6’2” and 225#.

Honestly, she could probably get away with either size. Once you geth things dialed in. I think the 5'0" would probably give her an easier time learning and progressing. It'll keep her on the wave with ease and be a little more forgiving if she drops back. Riders as light as 100lbs have been able to ride it. As a bonus, at 225lbs you could easily fit the range of the 5'0" as well. The range on this board is quite broad.

I was able to go rope less with the new fat sac. This is 100% surf side and center locker ballast and 5% in the non surf side ballast. Trying to get up to speed was difficult though. Topped out at 10 mph. Made a good wake at 9 or 10 but horrible at 8 mph.
