Hey all you Central Florida boaters. Moving into area and wanna link up with some people who know the area. Anyone out there?

The Banana and North Indian Rivers are made for jet boats.
The Intracoastal Waterway Channel are deep. The remainder of those rivers is a couple of feet of sandy and grassy bottom.

So far on my few trips down while we wait for the closing of the house we have hit Lake Eustis( the launch if 3 minutes for the house) Lake Dora via the channel and Lake Harris same thing. Everything has been really fun and the channels are so beautiful, looking to make some river trips once we get the whole family down. I cant wait for my kids to experience it, its very different than our lake up north.

Actually, as long as they have enough water depth, they are hard to hit.
I have had several close encounters. the most humorous was while water skiing. We were in about 10 feet of water. While passing a certain spot the depth alarm would trigger and say 4 feet. Turns out it was a manatee that would hear us approach, submerge, and rise again after we passed. We found this out because my daughter was having trouble getting up on the skis. So I jumped in the water to hold the skis straight until she got going fast enough. Turns out we were right on top of the manatee. It heard us approach at speed and submerged. My wife then idled the boat away to remove the slack in the tow rope. When she gassed the boat the manatee heard that the boat had passed far enough away and surfaced under my daughter and me. It freaked out all 3 of us. My daughter almost walked on water. She got up on the next try. I swam over to a beach. While I was waiting to get picked up, a manatee swam over and gave me side eye. It had 4 lines on it's back where my knuckles had scraped off the algae.
Saturday I was transiting the Canaveral Barge Canal and witnessed a herd of about manatees 10 traveling East.

That's nuts, I would love to see them....
That had to be scary at first but really neat after the fact. They seem like such docile animals. I just think it would be so cool to be able to swim with them. Ive heard of people doing that but I don't know the legality so I will enjoy from a far.
We were on Dora this past weekend and saw otters in the channel that was fun. But that's really the only aquatic wildlife other then birds we've encountered yet. I think I am going to really enjoy the lakes in Florida more than upstate NY and PA.

Where at?
