what oil are we all running ?

It isn't the engine vin/hin. It's the boat itself, and yes I registered my boat when I bought it. I upload my oil changes in there when I do it.

Yup, that is what I'm typing in, got them from my paperwork and verified on both the boat/wave runner using the tag on the hull to make sure they matched.

Yep, Yamalube in mine. Filters too. Always. I just order the kit. I'm not one to 2nd guess the engineers at Yamaha just to save 50 cents a quart once a year.

Yamalube only. I’m already at 50 hours, and will be changing the oil and filters for the 2nd time this season. I’m totally ocd when it comes to maintenance. My wife always asks “Are you getting this boat ready for the lake, or are we taking it to a museum tomorrow”?

Regardless of any brand of oil, as long as you keep up with the regular maintenance periods, keep levels in check, stick to recommended viscosity, etc. It is EXTREMELY unlikely you will have an engine failure related to the oil. Again, I stick with Rotella because it is in fact, a FAR, FAR superior oil to the basic Yamalube. The Yamalube will work just fine; the Rotella is actually overkill. Couldn't care less about the little warranty they offer. They offer that warranty because: A. See my comment above relating to engine failure, and B. They like to sell product.

There is NO way you or the engines will ever be able to tell the difference between oil brands. No way its going to affect your seasonal usage. I get so annoyed by the amount of time people spend Speculating about what oil to use in these engines. I used Rotella in my Honda Aquatrax for 11 years with NO issue and now use the Yamaha only because I just go and get the kits for each engine. Any of todays oil in the proper Viscosity range will serve you fine for the life of your ownership. Overpaying for things like Amsoil is simply a waste but thats another whole story. I actually love the 7/11 oil post. Just goes to show it really doesn't matter. Dont even get me going on Oil analysis :wtf:
Not to brag but I own high performance cars and they dont require changes for 10k miles or 1 year. Change your oil each season and you will be fine with what ever you use.

I used to be hyper critical of oils when I owned a sportbike. Now it's more for the convenience. I signed up for the "warranty" cause it's free and also requires little to no effort. HA! I won't keep this boat long enough for "subpar" oil usage to actually be a problem.

I def use marine oils for marine toys. can't think of a good reason not to.

Yamalube - buy in gallon jugs.

its crazy to think we are mostly using mineral oil in our precious 1.8s .. in todays day age we would definatally want extra protection and durability of synthetic but it seems yamalube is on par for the job ... i wish they made a synthetic version in 10w40 ... i think when us northies go into storage mode for 7 months its better to have synthetic in the motors during the long sitting period ..
