Snaps broke on Snap in Sea Dek carpet? Need Help

I have had a few snaps break on our Sea Dek Carpet for our 18 Yamaha 242 Limited S E boat.

Can I order new snaps somewhere? I think I need a rivet tool squeezer too. Just need some advice how to purchase and get this replaced.

We use this tool to fasten to canvas/vinyl, sure it would work on carpet. You can also find the right snaps here too.

There's a well cheapo version of the tool on Amazon that is a compression plyer with a soldered tip to work snaps.

It works well enough for the price, but it's not a tool a pro would use.

Yamaha sells them on their Babbits Online Part Store. $2.95 apiece. Yikes!!!

I really like that squeezer too. I will call them later and see what they say. I just need to be sure I order the correct snap. All I need is the piece for the carpet. The attach snaps built in the floor are fine.

I purchased a very similar model to this one....it worked fine (not a pro model but good enough). I used it to install all the snaps for replacement carpet and a few canvas cover snaps.

If you find what size you need, SS of course. Normally if you buy a kit it will come with a tool to install it, all you need to provide is a hammer. If i were doing more than 20 or so i might consider buying a tool. This is just an example, I do not know what size you need. But you can see the punch and Die included in the kit. Good luck.

I just lost a snap and gave up after seeing you have to order 25 or so on Amazon. I didn’t realize a tool was required too.

Do you all think a marine upholstery shop could just do a couple of these cheaper than ordering parts & tool? Seems like it would take them 5 seconds and $0.50 worth of parts.

Would pay to ask, I would think. It is not hard. Problem is when the old one pulls out it often makes the hole bigger. To properly fix, you oversew a new square and then reinstall through both. So a bit more than just the $.50, but still pretty easy and I would think pretty cheap.

Agreed, On canvas and vinyl you sew a reinforcement patch over the old hole and install the new fastener. My wife just installed 2- #4 grommets on a generic center console cover for a customer that purchased on-line. He needed a bit of custom work to fit his boat.
The reinforcement patches and the two S.S. grommets cost him $50. We used a different tool to install than the PressNSnap, as they are big grommets. So a canvas worker can do it easily if they have the time. Sewing a reinforcement patch to carpet could be a challenge.

Ordered sockets and buttons from Sailrite. Bit the bullet and ordered the squeezer too. Brian at Sailrite was so helpful. I will get them installed after I get my order and I will provide an update later.

That is a good one buddy. Brian mentioned having the squeezer will help to check the other to make sure they are snug. I wish it was not so expensive but I want to do it right.

Sewing a reinforcement patch to carpet could be a challenge.

When I did mine, I put a patch of heavy canvas on the back side of the carpet, sewed that in, then attached the snap through the old hole and the new patch... Not that bad, really. And it held nicely.

Update:
I got my new snaps and squeezer today. I am attaching some pictures. Squeezers were crazy high $$$ but worth every penny.
