Check the CDI fuse and report back
Had my mechanic check the CDI box and it was blown but now replaced but still no sounds. Could the starter have fried or burned turning it over?

Did he check the fuse after he replaced it to see if it burned again? If something is stuck it could cause it to burn out up until all debris is clear. I am not sure about the starter frying but that is possible as well as the regulator in the CDI box. I am not good at electrical. I would check all connections and I think you can possibly hook the starter directly up to the battery. Others may know more about whether that is the case

He's checked the starter and fuse again and still nothing, no noise. Even if there were something in the intake plug shouldn't it make a sound?

You could remove the spark plugs and see if you can turn the motor/pump by hand by rotating the pump shaft through the cleanout port.

Could one of the kill switches by the clean out plugs have been burned out when trying to start it with the rope in?

Did you swap the switches ?(unplug and reconnect to other wire harness). If you did, and re closed the cleanout hatch, and nothing changed, it's unlikely that it's a cleanout hatch switch.

No we have not changed the switches yet

Make a hopper for the switches perhaps? Unplug em and jump the wires?

The starter is accessable from the front with 2 bolts i believe. Disconnect the batteries first!
Take the starter out and the using two good well shrouded spare wires touch the ends to the battery to test the starter itself. If any of this needs to be explained further please get a mechanic friend to help!
If the starter spins then it is fine. With starter out, and spark plugs out ( 2 smokes really don't need to) try spinning the impeller shaft by hand through the clean out port.
If the engine spins by hand and the starter is good, you can check the bendix drive that is in the front cover by the oil pump (unless you converted to premix).

That is the best ways to check for the mechanical stuff.
If shaft spins (when in and attached) then motor is ok.
Starter runs on battery then obviously not that.
Bendix sometimes goes bad but easy to replace.
After that you are looking at switches or engine management units.

Don't leave us hanging! What was it?!
The recent owners had cut and plugged the oil intake and they had not informed us, so we did not premix our gas but our mechanic caught it and ran an I.V. and it is all good now!!

@Dean Andler I'm glad to hear that you're back up and running. Keep a very close eye on your engines. Due to so many variables, It's really hard to figure out these kind of issues over the Internet without actually being there in person. However, if you added a significant amount of fuel to your tank without adding oil/lubrication (and ran them for an extended period of time) theres a chance that your engines could've suffered some internal damage. Hopefully you're all good, but keep an eye on things and hopefully your up to speed on how to pre mix the fuel at the correct ratio.

@Dean Andler I have a question - what is an I.V. here?
Sounds like you got lucky with that rope after all... might have prevented a catastrophic failure down the line - seized pitons!
One thing I would recommend very highly is to run Yamaha Ring Free (Plus) gasoline additive - in your fuel. It is very expensive, but it's the $hit, especially for 2 strokers.

@Dean Andler , great that you found there was an issue with the fuel not being pre-mixed. I don't understand how that prevented the starter from engaging and with the gas only mix, I would expect the engine would have run up until the point that it melted down. Is there any more explanation and/or multiple things that were fixed? This is a no judgement zone and we all benefit from the root causes to any problem even if it is an oversight. Please tell....

Again, very good news that you are up and running. If I were you, I would run some fogging oil through the engine to get everything good and lubricated. PM me if you want to know more

My mechanic called it an I.V. but it's pretty much just a big can they hung up and ran a line from it straight into the engine with mixed gas. And I honestly have no other explanation, they hand crancked the engine and got it turned over and then ran the right gas/oil through it.

One more question, I need to order online a new xRPM gauge as it has went bad, the right one is fine but I need a new left one. I've read online that many have replaced them with teleflex gauges, is the hookup the same for both? And also I need a new speedometer end piece. Where could I order these?

I'm sure there's a few on eBay. Here's a few pitot's from west marine. http://www.westmarine.com/search?Ntt=Pitot

I can't remember the gauge manufacturer off the top of my head (faria?) But you can send in for a remanufacture of it.
