After a lot of agonizing on boat selection - size and model - we are pulling the trigger on a 2017 242 Limited S tomorrow. Sold our beloved 2008 Malibu 21 LSV for the greater flexibility of the Yamaha not to mention the jet versus prop in a fairly "tricky" part of Lake Livingston - up north in the wilder part. This will take us to 100% Yamaha from the 75% level.

Looking forward to some quick modifications - probably Cobra fins, a little fill-in Sea Deck, a mount for the Lowrance Elite 7 Ti and some other items but mostly getting to enjoy the opportunity to use and explore a much larger part of the lake and Trinity river.

Thanks to all on the forum for the knowledge, insight and ideas.

Congrats on the new boat! Don't forget to try and change out the bow roller pretty quick to reduce damage to that nice new boat!

congratulations! don't forget to check the anchor locker drain and you might want to think about a keel guard.

Congrats on the new boat! Send some pics. I'll second the keel guard and bow roller. I did the VeVe guides on the trailer and I love them. I added bilge pump and fume detector as well.

@WTScott Nice. I must say, this color scheme makes me feel Yamaha is really coming of age!

I dont have one but many people here would suggest u go over your shorelander trailer with a wrench and tighten everything up!

x2

The nuts were backing off the winch arm on my trailer causing the wheel jack to kick out and eventually became difficult to move the boat https://jetboaters.net/threads/is-this-gap-on-my-front-trailer-wheel-normal.11310/. Everything else so far has remained tight (knocks on wood). Before kicking off boating season this year I'm going to go over the entire trailer and add blue loctite to every fastener.

I would also suggest doing the anchor locker drain fix before getting the boat wet.

And one more thing - I would spend some time waxing the hull before the first dip in the water. Makes a big difference down the road -- you will be surprised how "dry" the gelcoat feels and how much wax/polish it will soak in.

Thanks to all for the comments. I keep hoping that Yamaha will listen to their customers and fix the crazy manufacturing defect (feature!?) on the anchor drain. It would be such a simple step at the factory and would solve so many issues and complaints.

I have some new parts to attack the drain in my FSH this weekend - when my 260 pounds is standing on the bow fishing we are picking up a lot of water - at least I hope that solves the issues. I test drove a 212 Limited S (really great boat) and we had nearly no water.

Decision points for me we're that little extra space - even though the 21 foot boats are very close in interior size, the extra here and there (actually a little smaller in a couple of areas like width of stern) was nice. Also the 1000 pound extra weight allows us to legally load up the all our kids, grandkids, dogs...... An interesting point was the number of old posts from people making the same decision who opted for a smaller boat and now have a larger one. That being said, the 21 footers are super. The new bimini is a great option - the extra shade will be nice here in Texas. The drive by wire options are also pretty nice with single throttle, synchronization and acceleration profiles. It's a little thing, but we really love the two fully cushioned and larger seats on stern. It's a great place for the two of us to hang out and enjoy the water.

Still unsure on getting extended YES. They have offered a a good price but my experience with these things is they rarely pay out. Is there any problem if you do your own routine maintenance (oil, lube, filters) with the warranty? With five Yamaha engines 50 miles away from the dealer and on lifts this is a non starter.

Thanks for feedback - more pictures to come.

I thought those were the good rollers? What's the best one to get?

The stock ones on the Shorelander trailer are made of hard plastic that will scuff and scratch the gel coat even after the first times out. Most of us upgrade to a Stoltz Ultimate. They make a newer 3.5" made for Shorelander trailers but it's actually more narrow than the stock roller (3.6") and has a different profile shape than the 4" I prefer. I just shaved mine down to fit nicely in the roller bracket.

Oh ok. Good to know. So what's the size of the roller that comes on the AR240 trailers?

Nice. Love the color combo. Get some Hot Sauce for cleanup. With that black you'll get a lot of water spots without it!
