Got to the cove yesterday and went to toss my anchor in the water. Started backing the boat to set the anchor, and wasn't having much luck. I grabbed the rope and noticed it was very loose and I pulled it in with little effort. The bolt in the shackle must of came loose and now my anchor is on the bottom of the lake. I want to get the same exact anchor that I had because I have had great success with it. I am pretty sure it is the one below. Does anyone know if I can buy the anchor only from Yamaha? Also, how are you buys making sure the bolt doesn't come loose on the shackle?

If you liked that anchor you will be even happier with a Fortress FX-7. West Marine normally has them for $99.

I will take a look. Yes, I was very pleased with the anchor that came with the boat. It was always rock solid for me if set right.

I used to have the "lucky hooker 13" from west marine for under $30. It was a basic galvanized danforth anchor like the one in your pic just a lot cheaper. It fit perfect in the anchor locker mounts of my sx 230 after I cut the an 1" or so off the mount rod ends. I'm just throwing an inexpensive alternative out there. If money and storage in the locker are not concerns, I highly recommend the small, not baby, box anchor.

Sorry for your loss, it probably happens a lot more often than people will admit. I few years ago I completed what I thought was the perfect anchor toss into 14' of water ( per my depth/fish finder), until I saw that I did not attach the bitter end to the boat and I was in 72' of water not 14' (14 was how many volts my batteries were showing).

I believe the Yamaha anchor is a generic fluke style anchor. The kit is a not a bad deal since it comes with chain and anchor rode. You can find similar anchors at West Marine or even Walmart.

The Fortress is a better engineered, lighter and sharper aluminum fluke style anchor.

Some are switching to Rocna anchors for even quicker setting of the anchor but they come with storage issues.

Since the Yamaha anchor worked for you another fluke style anchor should be perfect.

Danforth and Fluke are both anchor brands and generic terms used for the same style of anchor.

Overtons.com has just the anchor for 24.99 and there is a 15% coupon code off that price. Free shipping has a 25 dollar min so you would need to add something else.

The YAMAHA anchor is a std 8# danforth anchor with a width of 18 1/4 inches so you can find it almost anywhere much cheaper.

@MattFX4 when you do replace your anchor I would recommend shackles with a safety pin in place.

Something like the pic below. However where there cotter pin is at I would recommend a key ring, that way it can not slide out. imho

Nearly certain that the Yamaha Deluxe is the Danforth "S600".
Their 9lbs anchor with an 18 1/4 "B" width (the one that holds the anchor upright in the locker). (validate by measuring the "B" distance, on your boat)
You should be able to get just this anchor from about anywhere-

Regarding securing a shackle.
What we sailors have always done is use zip ties on anything that humans can come in contact with (and low abrasion) and use stainless wire to secure anything that absolutely positively must stay secured (or very difficult to get to seasonally to inspect/replace).

I'm partial to Rocna (if my life depended on it) but more expensive. I like their 'fishermen' option if you anchor where there are a lot of underwater obstacles (logs, coral,...) that anchor could get hooked under.
For our purposes of day anchoring, I'm leaning toward Mantus. Likely 8lbs and see if I can hang it from it's roller, from my Danforth.

To secure the shackle, I used come picture wire looped through it 3-4 times. If in salt water a zip tie works well as it won't rust as easily. Basically, ya want anything to make sure that pin isn't rotating out.

As a beginning of the season check, I'd also recommend checking the nut on the bottom of your trailer ball as many of them do not have a locking pin on them either. I did upgrade to a 7500 pound one from U-Haul last year (over the 6,000 cheapie I got from Way-Mart) because the U-Haul has the same weight rating as my tow vehicle, and it has a cotter pin on the nut to keep it from coming loose.

I've lost two anchors. Both replaced with the walmart danforth and they fit perfectly in the anchor locker!

Thanks for the tips guys. Going to find a cheap danforth s600 model. It holds really well on the clay bottom lake I boat on.

Academy sells them for cheap. I believe it's the #13 thats a perfect fit for the anchor lockers.

Thanks! $19.99 at academy for the 600 Danforth.

You could use blue loctite and a safety wire or zip ties etc as mentioned

I just threw down on a box anchor. The standard fluke that fits in our anchor compartment works on calm days but windy days can be a struggle in Lake Travis.

I almost lost my favorite river anchor few weeks back - to mighty Mississippi (and some old freaking steel cable)

That thing felt like few hundred lbs, after an hour of fighting I was ready to give it up... as I could not figure out what the heck was dragging it. Got lucky at the end to find out!

@swatski - just be glad it wasn't one of the monstrous cat fish that hide out under the JB bridge!!

I watched a guy pull up some cable in lake Travis. So far I've pulled up some stumps and large rocks. Its always an uneasy feeling.
