Dip or not to Dip?

Would you plastidip the tower?

I would powder coat, may cost more but a better finish
 
I would not want the hassle of removing the plastidip when it starts peeling.
 
Sure why not? If you don't like, peel it off. No harm done. Stuff is pretty durable too if you do it right. I dipped a ford raptor grill that I put on my f150 2 years ago and it still looks as good today as the day I did it. I do a lot of driving on the interstate too where rocks and other debris fly up.
 
I personally wouldn't do that big of an area, but still voted yes since it's not for my boat! :) I agree with @MattFX4, if you don't like it just peel it off.
 
Lets presume the black painted tower os damaged. And money is tight

I voted plastidip. It's cheap and if it doesn't hold up then you know you'll need to have it powder coated. Are you also going to plastidip your window frame to match it?

**not just yet but I was recently told it will be covered under warranty (more than likely painted by someone near or at Wedowee would be my guess and not through Yamaha). I haven't taken mine in as I had planned to do that in the winter after boating season. However I was going to remove the entire tower myself and just take them the base to have painted because I don't trust Wedowee to uninstall/reinstall my tower without screwing something up in the process not to mention my tower cable mod. I may just run the pieces through my work's powder coat line and be done with it myself to save the hassle of the drive to the dealer. The problem is that even if it's brand new paint it's not going to prevent it from chipping in the future as I'm fairly confident I have identified what is causing the contact damage. Will need to try a rubber pad in addition I think to absorb the impact rather than metal on metal or in this case metal on painted metal.

I voted no. But the more I think about it, how about having it covered in sprayed on bedliner? That would be a durable coating! You have to mask off where you don't want it like where you mount speakers. It will add some weight to the tower too.

I would rather not have a textured surface. Powder coating would be too expensive... I'm thinking as far as buying a mini paint sprayer and going at it! (tower will be off)

Dip it man. Cheap and not difficult to change
