Need an opinion from someone who has experience with both (I know someone in here has to have bought both LOL). I saw a fellow Yammie owner with one like this but didn't get the name of it and been wanting to buy it ever since. The WM option is about half the price but I want to know if it is as good. I almost always anchor stern into the shore to give access to the swim deck for everyone. Have a danforth that I use for the bow and it works good for Florida lakes, rivers, and ocean. The other guy was using three which might be a little overkill but it worked beautifully for him, hence why I was so interested in getting it.

Looks like the size for our boats is only a $20 difference. Need the larger WM version, but the small slide anchor is good for 25'. I don't have either, so will be following along. Want to get one for this season.

The Danik hook is a pretty slick piece. Expensive for what it is, but I love mine.

I have the slide anchor and it works very well. The big difference just by looking at the picture of the WM anchor is the lack of a loop on the top of the slide. I have a rope and a small marker float attached to mine so people around me know where it is and don’t have a bad day and trip on it. It’s not very feasible to put the spike on shore where we anchor off. The spike is normally 2-3 for underwater. But by looking at the pics they are both the same concept.

Looks like a less expensive version of box anchor’s shore spike too me. $50 for the larger WM version is a great price, I’m pretty sure I spent closer to $80 for each of my two shore spikes. If I needed another one I would give WM a try. The WM version is missing the top loop (the mid point loop can be used instead but it’s more of a hassle to use as a buoy attachment point since it’s lower it will be harder to get to in the water). I like the tip cover that comes with the WM version but would rather have the heavy bag with draw strings that comes with the shore spike because it keeps the shore spike from extending while it is being handled/moved, plus Im likely to lose the tip cover. I wonder if box licensed it’s patent to WM or if they had to?

@ApelilaRains , I believe it but would not be upset unless you actually got the polished stainless versions for that price. I don’t know what a polished shore spike sells for but a polished box anchor is roughly twice as much as a non polished box anchor. I saw one at a small boat shop once, $300+!

I have been using the WM one for about 4 years now and it works great. We use it on the river with sandy beaches and haven't had any issues with it coming out except when a large barge or other large boat comes by and makes a huge wake. I'v had a lot of people inquire about it every year

I bought that exact version on the link, wasn't even thinking about it be polished or not. Come to think of it, I think it was...but once you start using it, won't be for long :D

This was my choice. I am very happy with it combined with a cheap Harbor Freight rubber mallet.

I have the large WM one, I only have a 19 ft boat but got the large just incase I wanted to tie more off to it. It's super stout, had a few sharp edges from the galvanized dip but they were easy to file off. It can be a little slick at the top on removal from the sand, I found rocking it back and forth a few times makes it a lot easier to remove from the ground. Also when it's tough to remove and the waves are beating you in the face, you tend to look like a moron LOL.

I made a buoy for it out of a small piece of foam tube, para cord and a carabiner . Easy to clip on and cost me about $3.

One use tip for anyone with or considering a shore spike is if the slide starts to stick, submerge the whole thing and work the slide mechanism to clean any sand or debris that may have built up in it. I learned this the hard and foolish looking way by trying to force the slide open and closed out of the water, on shore, in front of a crowd.

I have both. I haven't used the WM spike yet but it looks like it will work just as well. I stored my other spike in a large hollow noodle when on the boat..

I have the WM version:

My buddy @mattschepker has the shore spike. Both work well above and below water.

I can see your embarrassment @Ronnie. Especially if you had the spike clamped between your leggs. . Seriously though. I've been using the shore spike for 5 seasons coupled with the anchor buddy off the bow. They work great as a pair. Get the larger spike for ocean, river or any active body of water.

@ApelilaRains Thanks. I ended up purchasing the large Shore Spike from that link you provided. I might also get the WM version since everyone also cosigned it and to have a second one and save a few bucks (store delivery for free). Don't think it would hurt to have one for each side of the stern.

Doesn't hurt to have a second one. For now, one will work us, but who knows!

That was me with my back to the crowd. Of course my wife didn’t say anything until after I was done. She claims she could have, would have and should have helped me. I reminded her that she didn’t and proceeded to get in trouble for the reminder.

I have two shore spikes and two box anchors, love them all and use one of the spikes to hold waverunners in place. They only box product I don’t have is the Danik hook, just can’t justify the price.

Does anyone know if west marine offers their own versions of the box anchor or danik hook?
