Has Yamaha continued to offer this benefit since 2016?

We bought on May 3rd 2017....a few days after that 2016 deal ran out according to our dealer. We probably would've don eit had we qualified for both the low rate and the "buy back" option. Motorcycle dealers/manufacturers have been doing this for awhile (BMW and Ducati in particular) as a way to get people introduced to the brand with an inexpensive bike, and schedule a trade up in the "near" future for them.

Our dealer also said they had a very low "take rate" on that deal. I chocked it up to more of Yamaha's marketing department being overly aggressive with the advertising of the available low rates, and the finance department being overly conservative on credit rating required to get them. That situation is borderline bait and switch in my opinion.

@Robconn to answer your question, I have not seen that deal since they stopped it in early 2017.

When I spoke to my dealer years ago you had to use a special financing which had a higher rate then the promo rate so I don't think many choose to do this. You also had to keep the boat a minimum of 5 years so I'm not sure anyone who may have participated is in the qualification period to do so yet. The real kicker was it only actually covered $5K so if after 5 years you owed $35K on your boat and the dealer was only offering you $20K trade in this would only bump it to $25K. The program sounded good in theory but I wonder the same as many others if it was really no more then a marketing ploy in a time when things in the boating industry were a little shaky. I know in March of 17 when I upgraded to a 2017 the program was no longer being offered.

The sales manager acted as is Yamaha has revoked the original agreement all together due to little or no demand from buyers to trade up in this program. Although my 5 year anniversary is June 2021. I was considering trading up sooner than 5 years but the math tells me I would have to come up with 10k in negative equity. Maybe if Yamaha honors its original terms, then by 2012 the equity would be closer to the value of the boat. He did say if I was patient, the best incentives would be at the yearly boat show In January. And Yamaha would be the most aggressive in sales.

I was given the "boat show price" when I bought. Basically was $500 off MSRP. In my experience and observation, Yamaha is the LEAST aggressive in discounts given. $500 off a $29,995 boat is only a 1.6% discount. For reference, on a larger and much more expensive wake boat, my neighbors got nearly 20% off MSRP at the show.

You can be the judge on if that is a good business model (by pricing your boat right the first time instead of "playing the game"), or if that is being less aggressive on discounts. I still think I got an exceptional value for my $30k as compared to other boats in this size/class/segment.

I prefer Yamaha's pricing method. I was cross shopping other bowriders before we went with Yamaha, and was offered $60K off a Formula 24' model. I have no real reference for whether or not I'm getting a decent deal or still overpaying by 10-15K.

I tend to agree and also prefer the Yamaha pricing methodology. You know what you get and what you're going to pay. No option sheets to flip through and try to configure a boat, and then no dealership haggling/negotiating/etc. The same reason CarMax is the #1 used car retailer in the country both in terms of units sold and profitability. Helps with resale value as well in my opinion. Don't have to compete with new boat "rebates" or "discounts" to get your used boat sold at an acceptable price.

I know there are others that think Yamaha doesn't "play ball" the same way other manufacturers do. Hence my wording above for each to decide whether it's a good or bad thing. I know several people that are always more concerned with "how much they got off the price" instead of examining if they got what they paid for. :D

Yea I don't think they offer it any longer. Last time I saw it offered was 2016 when I bought my boat. I also don't know of anyone who took the bait on that trade-in "deal'. It was basically a lease program. You had to go with their worst/highest APR and their longest term in order to qualify for the trade-in program. Nobody in their right mind would take the higher APR vs a lower APR so I think that program died at its inception.

My AR192 was affordable enough and a great way to get start boating. No complaints here. At the time of purchase, I was naive about trading up listening to sales rep and just assumed it would be easy to do through Yamaha. I’m finding out through this forum and talking to the Yamaha sales rep that’s not exactly that simple. It will be interesting to see if Yamaha will ever offer attractive incentives in order to keep Yamaha owners from straying or will they be content on only focusing on first time buyers.

Yeah my experience in talking to Yamaha dealers about trading a boat in have not been positive. I know others have had good experiences but when I was going to trade my 2011 SX240 the trade offer from the Yamaha dealer was laughable I sold the boat my self for $8k more then what I was being offered in trade in and my selling price was a great deal as the going market was somewhere on the $10-12K more then the trade offer range.
