Has anyone experience scratches on the bow due to the hard material on the stock Yamaha trailer bow roller? (hard plastic). Are there any other rollers available? (I guess a rubber one would be more gentle on the boat while towing)

Now, I have to figure out how to fix the scratches on the boat :-(

We all have experienced scratches. A Stoltz bow roller is a must.

thanks!! (I wish I knew this before the last trip). Is there a specific size that I need to order? or one size fits all? (I got a 212X).

thanks.

Measure the inside width of your current roller mount, and buy that size with the bells. They do offer a kit for yamaha shorelander trailers, which fit mine perfect, but I'm not sure what trailer you have.

I stored the boat about 4h away at the river, so I am trying to be prepare and bring the new roller with me on the next trip in 2 weeks. So, I cannot measure it. I have the stock Yamaha trailer (see below). Do you happen no know the size? (thank you).

Yes the stock roller sucks and it's the first thing members often suggest to change on any new boat. You'll be glad you did.

The RP-355 is for the 3.5" roller and the Ult-4 is for the 4". Use the RP-434 bells with either roller. I went with the Ultimate 4 kit and trimmed a little off each end of the roller so it matched perfectly to the width of the stock roller which was 3.6" on my trailer. I also prefer the profile of the ULT4 roller vs the RP-355. Yours may be different so measure to verify.

I have a 24 foot boat and the 4 inch stoltz fit without any modifications. I really can’t believe how bad the original roller was. Fortunately I got up to speed via this website and the never used the stock roller once.

This seems to be a common topic. I had an aluminum trailer built for my 2005 AR232 which had a typical V-shaped bow. I sold the 2005 and bought a 2013 242LS, but kept the custom trailer. You can see from the first picture that the flat nose above the hook on the newer boats smashes the V-shaped roller and cups. I email with Stoltz who recommended the shallow roller with different caps. I included a couple photos. I will post additional photos once I get it installed. @falco you have the same year I do, although a 21 foot. I recommend you consider this shallow version that more evenly distributes the pressure as the bow engages the stop if you have a similar bow shape. Remember the bow stop has nothing to do with guiding the boat onto the trailer, the bunks do that. One other note, I understand the Shorlander trailers need an unusual 3.5" center roller. My trailer is a more standard 4".

Thank you @AZ Native, that is VERY helpful. I'm having a friend measure the center roller to make sure I order the right one (3.5" or 4"). So, when you order the rollers, do you have to order the caps separately?

How did you get rid of the scratches caused by the stock roller? On the water might be challenging and on the trailer the roller is on the way

Thanks again!

You can buy them separately or as a package.

Cools thanks. Checking on Westmarine but they don't have the RP446 (roller) or the RP325 (caps). Does is comes with the screw and nuts? Can I use the stock or do I need to purchase a new one?

That looks good @haknslash , thanks, but I like AZ Native roller setup to keep the caps from bending all over (see below)

@falco So when I emailed Carl Stoltz he recommended the RP-335 for the center section if you have a Shorlander trailer (3.5" gap). Then order 2 of the RP-325 end caps. The 335 has a deeper V than the 446 but less than the 355 everyone else is recommending. Should work fine.

I had an excellent experience purchasing the Stoltz rollers from www.coyotemfgco.com Jim Harris the warranty manager took care of me (very responsive). I didn't ask for it, but he also provided me a new proper width mounting bolt, washers and nylon insert nut, put it all together as a set and shipped it UPS.

As for working on the scratches I would just loosen up the entire bow winch arm assembly attached at the trailer and slide it back to access the hull. It shouldn't be that hard to loosen a few bolts then slide it back into place and tighten it up when you're finished.

Installed the shallow Stoltz RP-446 roller and RP-335 end caps today and the results are exactly what I hoped for. I'm sending these pics to Carl Stoltz recommending he build a 3.5" version of the RP-446 for the hundreds of you who have the Shorlander trailers with 2010 and newer boats. This is the way the bow should sit on the bow stop.

Probably could put together a decent size group buy if they actually built one!

@falco I just found this pic of the Shorlander bow stop from a post by @txav8r , it shows the Shorlander set up is shorter than my custom trailer and comes in with the bow stop just above the cleat, which rests a deeper V section of the bow on the roller. That being the case I have more confidence that the RP-335 center roller and the two RP-325 end caps will work with the newer boats with Shorlander trailers. Either way Stoltz is the only way to go.
