Has anyone considered making these boats faster than they already are? I wonder if something like exhaust or any other performance mods would affect warranty..

Pretty much anything will effect your warranty.
Start with the intake stuff. Exhaust may help after you do that. It won't be huge gains but should be help! Also look at intercooler upgrades and supercharger upgrades if you have a 200 or 250 hp engine (s).
Problem is boat specific kits are still being put together i am sure. You can look at the ski stuff for upgrades.
@ISLANDRACING may have some insight.

Very good topic, also interested in this

Here is my recent communication wit Riva Racing from greenhaul they've mostly work on PWC.

Q:
Hello I came across your website and I am interested in maptuner or dynojet product , would like to flash ECU on my Chapparel Vortex 243 VRX 2016 Jet Boat with two BRP 250 engines ,see-doos runs same engines , will I be able to see any difference in performance with the products you sell , do I need to do any modifications in addition to the flash to get any results. Thank You

R:
Sergey, the best answer I can give you is it may be possible for you to tune the engines on your boat with the MaptunerX. It would depend on which software version is on the ECU's on your boat. In the worst case scenario, the ECU's an be sent to us so we can read them with our special equipment. Once we read them then you would be able to use the MaptunerX on the boat.

I can tell you though, the entire reason to reflash the ECU's is to be able to supply fueling for higher boost levels. This is where the gains come from. So, in addition to reflashing your ECU's you would want to install these supercharger upgrades

If you have any questions let me know. I'm happy to assist you.

Jerry

Q:
Is there any instructions on-line on how to locate ECUs from this engines?

R:
The ECU is bolted to the top of the intake manifold.

See the diagram on this page of our store. The ECU is item 9
http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche.com/4tec/showmodel.asp?Type=13&make=seadoopwc&a=639&b=12&c=0-INTAKE-MANIFOLD/THROTTLE-BODY-ASSY.

Thank you
Jerry

Q:
How does the ECU Mail in works , do you guarantee its not going to get messed up by you guys connecting and modifying maps . Thanks

R:
Details
For the mail in tune, order the service from this link in our store and mail your ECU to the address spelled out in this link you order from.
https://www.4-tecperformance.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=180&products_id=4690

RIVA has never messed up an ECU reflashing them. They use highly specialized equipment to read and write to the ECU, but rest assured if something was messed up you will be taken care of.

Thanks

I am debating if I should do this

It's not worth it if you're not doing anything else to the engines, IMO!

I think exhaust will make the boat to laud for comfort but prop, intake manifold restriction, Riva racing filter may help.

Impeller is the best bang for the buck on the lesser expensive side. You already have an air filter like a K&N that works fine. From our own experience building ski's on the Rotax side, it takes a lot of money to go faster, and you also sacrifice reliability and longevity.

Mid 50's to 60 MPH isn't fast enough for you?

Speed... if you have to ask you'll never understand.
Holycow! Cedar lake Indiana was my old stomping ground as a kid and returned there to jet-ski my heart out in the 90's. Small world!

I apologize for reviving this old thread. I'm just wondering if anyone ever found out any concrete info on adding performance mods to the engines on jetboats? I haven't found much online that's available for boats just pwcs which leads me to believe that it doesn't exist? If anyone has any info I would appreciate it!

In Yamaha's the N/A 1.8 engines benefit from ribbon delete, and a (very expensive) RIVA/Maptuner X reflash smooths out the throttle response very nicely but no gains for top speed.
SHO/SVHO - there is a nice thread on mods started by @SamCF.

Most performance gains, and they can be very substantial, come from tuning/sealing/porting the pumps - to not allow any cavitation/ventilation to rob the engine power.

I appreciate your reply. I tried looking for that thread you spoke of but do not seem to be able to find it. Any chance you could be so kind as to link it here? Also in regards to tuners. I noticed there seemed to be some that would come up with quick google searches for specific yamaha boats. However when I search for them for say a chapparal or scarab, I find basically none that are clear cut that will work. I'm still weighing whether to buy rotax powered or Yamaha. Rotax definitely upped the ante with the new 300 twins for 2019. But future upgrades will weigh in my decision making. So if it is much easier to work on the yammies then that may swing me in that direction. I will also research sealing and porting the pumps on the different brands to see what is involved. Thanks again!

It is a long read... but lots of info. Might want to start from the back, lol.
https://jetboaters.net/threads/sx-192-mods.6550/

As far as tuners, Maptuner X from RIVA offers the ability to reflash back and forth to backup files, I find it very useful/reassuring as I do not always have access to 93 premium fuel on the water. I would check the 4-tech store and greenhulk forum for best advice, contact Jerry Gaddis directly with specific question - probably the best way to go.

Still wondering why someone would buy a Yamaha & then spend money to modify it ... just to keep up with a Rotax equipped Vortex or Scarab?
Heard the Vortex 223 with Twin 300 is above 65mph. You would need more than a pump porting & an ECU chip to get there LOL!

True. But for me, getting more than acceptable performance with Yamaha super reliable N/A twins - good enough.
