I got a shore spike for Father’s Day this year, and I’m wondering what type of line you’re supposed to use with it? Will just a long enough dock line work?

I use a long (50 ft) standard dock line between the Sand Spike and the boat, and I use an Anchor Buddy (big bungee cord - see photo) attached in parallel (with slack in the regular line) with the regular anchor line. This setup allows me to: set the regular anchor, pull the boat in closer to shore for unloading, let line out as the Anchor Buddy pulls the boat back out to deeper water and then plant the Sand Spike on the beach.

It works well in our 8+ ft. tides versus constantly adjusting the lines like the other boaters.

We used an auger style sand anchor off the back as well and I have had good success with the airhead bungee line. Usually in 2-3ft of water.

I use that same bungee & a fluke anchor off of the bow and a screw anchor with rope on the stern when we are backed in at the sandbar. Gives the boat room to move when the wake comes in from boats going by so it's not getting jerked by a taught rope. Works perfect for that type of situation.

I have a box anchor and anchor buddy/bungee cord for the bow and shore spike with anchor buddy stern. This allows me to anchor bow out off shore but also allows me to pull the boat close to shore for people to board it.

There are a few alternatives to the shore spike but I think it’s the product to beat.

I use a 1/2” dock line, 35’ long. A stainless Danik hook then adjusts the length. Hasn’t failed me yet, but even on coastal waters that we frequent the tide is mild plus we rarely stay in one spot more than 3-4 hours.
