Well, I'm getting 7,400-7,600 rpm tops and top speed of 46 mph with just me on the boat.
I get the same RPM but actually got 50 out of mine. I'll have to take picture of the "top speed" reading.

I was good with my 07 230 and the two star rating - meeting the 2004 Air Resource Board emission standards - but now these new boats meeting the 4 star rating stink - literally! These BS catalytic converters make e'm smell. They are certainly mechanically different when you consider all the extra emission BS! Just ask my mechanic, oh wait, he didn't know either

Suchawiitygal and I bought txav8r's boat from Texas and brought it back to California and we went through HELL
trying to get it registered. First they told us we need to contact Yamaha and get the red stickers for the engines and THAT never happened. Finally I called Sacramento and they said because it wasn't neither considered inboard or outboard, it was considered a big jet ski and we got everything passed. We paid California sales taxes ofcourse but its all said and done.

Any idea how I can tell for sure if my boat is a California boat? All I've seen so far are a sticker on each muffler that says, "Super Ultra Low Emissions", and the sticker has the outline of California on it. I read somewhere that the HP is not listed on the motor but there is a Kw/Hr rating or something like that on the engine.

You have a CA boat if you can see those stickers in the engine bay. The KW rating is on the emissions sticker, usually located on the lower port side engine bay wall. There is another somewhere but I cant remember where it is.

You need to relocate to Arizona, heck we can street legal anything over here like quads, dirt bikes, rhino's rzr's, etc.

you DO have a Cali boat. I work with a guy who has an identical boat like mine but it's red and white and he has all that emissions crap on his cause he bought it in Temecula ca.

You can also compare the engines / parts of the ca and non ca boats on sites like yamahasportsplaza.com.

First off @Noko you're MAX POWER will be 122kW. This label is in the engine bay, lower right side as you look at the engines.

Second, your engines will look like this. Fuse holders are to the right as you look into the engine bay. You can also see the Four Star rating sticker on the starboard engines Catalytic Converter.

I too was sold a CA boat without the disclosure. I have tons of documentation and videos from my dealer about 180hp, etc etc. In the end, rather than pursuing legal action, I took a deeply discounted YES plan and learned a lesson.

I'm still not super happy about it and almost feel bad for the dealers. I'm sure they either don't know the difference or are stuck with whatever they get. It's a bad situation all the way around.

I've considered removing the cats (looks pretty easy according to service manual) and spoofing the post cat O2 sensors, but just don't have the time for it. It's plenty fast as is, and I only want the speed a couple of times a year. Still not right, but I've learned to chill a little with age...

++++1 ^^^

This is the exact same path I took and is exactly how I feel as well. But... I dont want to remove my cats. I will probably need to sell my boat someday and dont want to deal with any hassle that may come of it.

@steined is correct. Life is too short to be pissed all of the time. Over time any animosity that exists because of this situation will dwindle and be replaced with good memories of boating time with friends and family.

@steined ,@RobA , I agree, I'm not upset just disappointed. The extra 4-5 mph isn't a big deal to me. It would have been nice to know what version I was getting. I wouldn't remove anything either. I think it could affect the possible resale of the boat. Also, with my luck, removing stuff would probably screw me.

@Noko CA models get better fuel mileage than non CA models. So that's a plus!

I also think that a boat that is can be sold in all states is a BIG PLUS. If someone would drive from California to Texas and back to buy my boat, they may do that for yours too. And you won't keep it forever. Knowing the hurdles that Calif threw in the road for @DawgDaze and @Suchawittygal , having a boat that was easily importable...that is a plus. And...just like @Williamsone46 mentions, it gets better fuel economy. I am not certain of course, but several guys have said they are running speeds with those that are not CARB compliant. I think it is all smoke and mirrors, and I think these boats may be labeled differently, but I think them equal competitors. That may not keep you from wanting to try to extort more from the dealer that didn't disclose this, but Yamaha views them as equal. I suspect that Yamaha will only build one line of boats, and slap a sticker on the ones it exports to the foreign country of California...but they are all about the same I think. You may be better off with a 50 state version than one that omits the most populous state in the union.

I also have the CA type. But one question I have is this -

On our gauges you can pull up the fastest GPS recorded speed. Mine says 51.8 (if I recall correctly). From what I understand this was from the testing phase that Yamaha does before shipping out the boat. If that's correct how is it this boat can reach that speed with cats installed? Right now I can only get around 49 with just me and with the wind going the right way.
