I want to cut a 12" wetsounds sub into my 195s. Has anyone here done or seen it done? I think it would look super good in the passenger side helm facing the passenger. I am very reluctant to do it and then find out about a fatal flaw. Im not afraid to cut my boat though, I have already added 8" revos to the cabin area. Any advice would be great thanks!0725201926.jpg

My bet is that access door will rattle like crazy and drive you insane! I watched videos of another members install and his is in an enclosure in that compartment and it rattled in the video. You don’t want to have that rattle like a hoopty in the ghetto. I should know, I hear it every time I get gas in my neighborhood! 😉

I read a lot of comments with disappointment running free air subs.

Yeah, that is probably what would happen. Kind of wish it did not have that access door. My old t-bird had trunk rattle something fierce but I couldn't hear it in the cab lol.

I loved my pair of free airs in my 210. Pretty happy with the single on my 252. It depends on your expectation. They are perfect for blended full sound, not so good for vibrating the boats around you.

Yeah I'm just trying to add a little more deep sound. Some songs just need that boom to play correct. Were they just mounted to the fiberglass completely free air or did they have a very ported enclosure?

We had a pair of free air subs in our "18 242x it sounded great and I'm a bass head. big thing is to have the EQ/ crossover set properly.

Essentially IB (Free-Air) is a very ported enclosure, at some point air escapes. They were just mounted to fiberglass with a backer ring for support.

I just did a 10" in my storage compartment, as soon as you close the hatch door, it muffles the sound terribly. My thought is, cut the hole in the fiberglass, use 5200 and some squeeze clamps to secure a "truckbox" to the backside. When it dries, drill through the fiberglass straight into the box. That will hold everything in place and a tight joint will be sealed pretty good.

I put a 10" IB in my helm, it did flex alot until I reinforced the back inside with wood. Sounds great, no flexing, no rattles.

I wondered about something like that. Would also protect the sub.

I added an additional pair of stock 6.5" speaker's mid cabin. Placed a 10" sub in port side helm.

Kinda the setup I am looking at also in my 2021 SX195.

Looking at swapping my stock speakers to the Wet Sounds and running a free air 10” or 12” in the port side helm.

looking at the HTX 6 channel amp with 5 and 6 bridged to run the sub and the other 4 channels to my 6.5 speakers. With the Wet Sounds MC-20 head unit.

I installed a 10” IB sun and dedicated amp under the throttle arms on my boat and think is sounds fine. Recommend that wherever you install the sib that you get a dedicated gain switch for it. When the bass hits too hard I’m my boat and vibrates my legs to the point I’m wondering if ive got engine problems the gain switch pays for itself in peace of mind/no down time figuring out where the vibration is coming from or how to reduce / fine tune it.

my few install tips. Drill a pilot hole in the location you choose and check the depth with an uncooked / un boiled spaghetti noodle. Also make sure the area you are going to drill into doesn’t have any wiring behind it. Yamaha tended to hang the wiring high in my boat.

That's pretty much what I did. I highly recommend a set of mid cabin speakers.

I went with one sealed JL M6 10” and had my storage door fabricated by a great local car audio guy to vent. Looks and sounds great. Super clean and no rattling. FAB901DF-3EA0-4EAB-8EE6-81258349C1ED.jpeg
