Towing help!

Hi everyone I believe I understand all the towing numbers and jargon, but I'd love some seasoned advice! I am looking at purchasing a 2016 AR192 with a single axle trailer.

My tow vehicle is a 2020 Range Rover Sport HST. According to Land Rover, I can tow 5000 with a "dead weight hitch" or 7716 with a weight distribution hitch. From what I've read, the AR with trailer/fuel/gear etc...should be around 3500Lbs?

Am I understanding things correctly? I'd like to stick with a dead weight hitch if possible.

My '17 AR190 scaled at 3,160lbs with a 280lb tongue weight.

AR192 should be within 2-3% of that. You'll be fine with that tow vehicle and without a weight distributing hitch.

Looking at towing, a good rule of thumb is to be no more than 85% of tow rating. This allows for payload considerations. Calculate the weight of the boat (including fuel and what's on board) and see where you stand. I agree with 2kwik4u, there shouldn't be much difference between the AR190 and the AR192.

Ok, I think I've found an issue. I totally forgot to post the tongue weight from Land Rover.

Apparently my "certified" tongue weight is 330 lbs. and my "design" tongue weight is 771 lbs. This is the note they provide explaining the difference and I don't understand it all...

"¹ For every pound above 331 lbs (150 kg) added to the trailer tongue weight, the same weight must be removed from the vehicle's payload. Make sure that the GVW, the GTW, and the maximum rear axle weight limits are not exceeded when applying the trailer tongue weight. If required, reduce the weight of the vehicle's payload. "

So, can I assume that as long as I'm between 330 and 771 lbs that I'm good?

Stay below 771, and you'll be fine. Mine was 280, yours will likely be similar.

There's a TON of simple math that goes into figuring out how much you can tow. Essentially each axle has a weight rating, then you have a gross vehicle weight rating (both axles combined will be more than this), and a gross combined vehicle weight rating (this is vehicle plus trailer).

Once you get the boat hooked up, go find a CAT scale and weigh the whole setup.

Next time I'm near a laptop/real keyboard I'll go through it in depth. For right now, you're vehicle is plenty capable to handle an AR192
