I have a Mercury 200 HP(2.5 Ltr) Outboard jet motor on a 18/60 Alweld . For some reason, the boat wants to almost cavitate in reverse. I've had all the linkage/s checked, and the cup is where it's supposed to be when in Reverse. I've noticed that while in Reverse, the motor is approx at 2800-3200 rpms. It seems like half the directional flow is hitting the transom , and the other below. I've toyed with the trim - raising the motor and then lowering back to the resting location, only to find that doesn't help or solve the problem. I've checked the distance that the boot should be below the boat per the diagrams. I do have a whale tail on the lower unit. Not sure if that's a deciding factor or not. But I know that even this outboard jet motor should have more in reverse that it does. (BTW we've went as far as making sure the impeller was at its proper setting in the housing) The boat does well in forward and in neutral. ANYBODY HAVE AN IDEA ??
