I have a 2017 242X and like many, the PA4A remote at the stern is going bad. I reached out directly to ASA and they gave me a replacement radio model XMH400. (cant find anything about it on the web other than a document ASA sent me). Has anyone tried this radio, more specifically, will it connect to Connext?

Thanks.

Hey buddy I have almost the same boat a 2017 242 limited s e series and wondering the same thing. Mine went out also and I had to talk to like 6 people over at asa last year and finally they came up with something but it took months. I've had it all this time and finally gonna install it. Did you have any luck? I appreciate a response if possible thanks in advance.

Sorry, I was on vacation or I would have replied sooner.

I did some research. I decided to go with a newer version of the radio, Polk UM2. Only found used on Ebay. Head unit the same but the control (which is what I needed) looks diffrent. Works perfectly with Connext. I have heard some people trying to use the Fusion brand of radios but I didnt get that far. My concern was I wanted the same compatbility with the Connext system, which the UM2 has. I did contact Polk and they gave me a radio that they currently sell that might work with Connext but I did not persue that one any further. You can reach out to Polk and they can give you that model number. I have heard of some people going with the Fusion radio and bypassing the Connext system altogether, with a separate control near the helm. There are a lot of option if you don't need it to connect to Connext. You can also try the forum yamahajetboaters.com. That is as far as I got since I found the UM2 and it worked.

Hey no problem thanks for the reply and information. Did you change it out yourself? I tried getting the swim deck out and man is it difficult lol. I'm gonna see if I can look into that UM2 aswell then. I like to leave it stock and for everything to work as it should.

I did not remove the rear deck control. I just upplugged it and plugged the new control unit it. Temporary setup and the control unit is just sitting near the batteries. I just wanted to get radio back up and running and will improve over the winter. As for removing the old one, I understand it is tight and there is either 1 or 2 screws holding a bracket on. The UM2 will leave it stock. As some point, I will do some additional research to see if the unit Polk recommended for the PA4 will actually work with the Connext. I am like you in that I want it to work like stock whereas I have control at the helm. I wish you the best.

I reached out to ASA last winter about a replacement for my PA4A on my 2018 AR240. They told me the latest model to replace it was the XMH400. Told me it was the same style system with Commander (remote) and Tuner Amp (module under the helm) and would work with my Connext screen. Main difference is that it was unbranded.

I tested first by replacing the remote first to see if it worked with original Tuner Amp and connext screen. It worked great. I decided to go ahead and replace the Tuner Amp as well and then just keep old PA4A system as a backup if ever needed. Definitely glad I replaced it as I could actually see the screen during the day which was the only reason for replacing. Old screen was plastic and a poor design.

While at it, I added a remote in the front as well.
