2004 SX230 Jet Pump coupler slop

The motor doesn’t move front to back or left to right. Shims are only for height adjustment. The depth of the coupler to the hub sets the gap in the coupler. Shaft inserts almost 3” so plus or minus 1/8” won’t affect the shaft splines.

Yes all Yamaha engines move forward or backward roughly 3/4 inch of play. If your doesn't move there is a problem

That would have been nice to know, way easier than than removing hubs. Where is the movement at? Bolts on bottom of engine mounts have 0 adjustment.

The mount to stringer has no to little movement. The single 12mm bolt on each of the 4 mounts have enough movement the holes in the engine bracket are much larger than the bolt. Thats why it is a large washer. If there wasn't much movement it was probably because there was corrosion build up in the hole

I did not try to undo the single bolt on top of the engine mounts. I am new to this boat and had only read about sliding motor back. Took boat out yesterday and had a great day. I can say it is quieter. We could hear each other talk in main cabin while under way. Last week could not hold conversation while under way.

How did you get the intermediate housing out without moving the engine?

I did move the engines, I removed the 8 engine mount to stringer bolts and slid engine on mounts.
