I've always used coated river anchors. Work great on the big river, and pretty decent on lakes in weedy/mucky areas. Not so much on nice sand with no current. I finally decided to change it up for lakes and ordered a 15# Digger anchor. Looking forward to see how it does. I've heard good things.

I carry a 20 lb mushroom anchor for the lake and a small box anchor for the river. The mushroom anchor fits perfectly in the anchor locker. The small box anchor folds and goes under the seat

25lb. Richter here! Five years of use and it has never slipped or moved. I now keep it in the starboard bow storage rather than the anchor locker. When I kept it in the anchor locker it beat the hull from the inside in heavy waves. Cost me $600 to have the spider cracks repaired.

Thought I would chime in. Had a good first outing with the boat this weekend, as well as new anchor.

Picked up a 20lb "Navy Anchor" from the local Bass Pro. Was $34 I think.

We simply dropped this anchor in the water, then about another 20ish feet of rope thrown out on top of it. Water depth was probably 25-30ft or so. Held the boat perfectly fine for a few hours with a heavy breeze and the bimini deployed. It also fits in the standard anchor locker up front with 100' of poly rope. If anything it feels a little heavy for the boat, but in this single use (more coming this summer :D) it worked really well!

This is a great anchor, and the one I use. Mine has 6ft of chain attached. Never disappoints. Just a tad on the heavy side.

I use the 20lb "Navy" anchor out front, and 3/4" fiberglass poles on the stern. The Navy anchor fits in the anchor box, and the poles go in the ski locker.

I've had better luck with the 20# Navy anchor in clear lake/Galveston bay.

In sand, the fortress style is all I knew as a kid in another life.

Maybe the right answer is that it depends on where you boat.

The baby box is intended for small personal watercraft/jet skis. You'll want to use the small box anchor intended for 18'-30' boats. I have one and it will hold very well in most conditions and bottoms.

Quick update to this post with some more experience with the "Navy Anchor" I have listed above.....

Put the boat on the water for the 4th of July celebration here in Louisville. To watch the show we anchored about 20-30ft off the "Great Lawn" in the Ohio River. Not a terribly strong current here (2-3mph maybe??!), but it does have a noticeable flow to it. We tossed the anchor in to about 20ft of water depth, threw in another 28-30ft of line (5 stretches across my chest.....a highly scientific measurement) and tied off. Held our little 190 very well for a few hours of sitting. Even survived the waves made by a passing barge just fine.

I'm very pleased with this particular anchor, and will be recommending it when asked by others with similar boats and usages.

I just recieved the baby box anchor, and folded up in its bag fits in the anchor locker on the AR190. Can't wait to try it out. Heavier than the OEM anchor that I lost last year

I bought a small galvanized box anchor and found it was overkill, so now I use a baby box anchor and with enough rode it holds well in everything I have encountered in the last 4 years, rivers, sand, rocks, storms, etc.
