Trying to get my shopping list sorted for the new boat and I'm curious what kind of anchors and what size you guys are using in the stock anchor locker. How many feet of chain do I need? I will boat primarily in muddy bottom lakes but also in salt water at the gulf.

I've looked into those as well. Almost seemed too good to be true as it doesn't require a chain to help keep the anchor set. Does that one fit in the anchor locker?

I have two box anchors. A small should be fine with a 19' boat. I have no idea if it will fit in the "anchor locker". I put my dock lines in there and my anchors stowed in a floor compartment with my buoys.

I'm all about the box anchor as well. I've cut danforth anchors to fit into the ski locker mounts. Although they looked great they only set on the first try at most half of the time. The grappling hook anchor I used to own never worked well either, maybe I was using it upon the wrong bottom, don't know for sure but the box has yet to let me down over almost four seasons in water with varying bottoms. If you want form over function get a danforth, you May have to cut the ends to make it fit in the locker. If you want function over form get a box anchor, I stow mine ready to deploy under a bow cushion but some have removed the bow ladder and added padding to their anchor lockers to accommodate a box anchor.

I run a small box anchor on my 192 and it works great. It won't fit in the anchor locker. I keep my anchor line in the front anchor compartment, and keep the anchor in its bag in the ski locker.

Sounds like box anchor it is. I'll throw it in the ski locker and use the anchor locker for wet line storage. Thanks for the input guys.

I use a box anchor for everyday. I have a fluke for when I need to tie-off the back on a windy day.

I use a mushroom anchor with the anchor buddy line.

I have a small box anchor and a digger anchor, both are great.

my only problem with the box anchor is the amount of sediment it pulls off of the bottom, its really heave and creates a mess up front.

other than that, just as you heard, sticks like glue....

The box anchor is awesome! However, as @Michael Rasmussen said, it pulls up half the lake upon retrieval. We usually have to tie it to the cleat and putter around a bit to wash it off. And it is heavier than a similar fluke anchor.

But, it almost never brings up any kind of bottom treasures (stumps, logs, barrels, boots, refrigerators...) and it has always stayed set upon deployment.

:D pulls up half the lake. That should be their slogan.

I plan to get a small box anchor for sure. I could then use a fluke or small mushroom for my secondary anchor on windy or swift current days.

@DBamaC was really impressed with the dirt cloud it raised last weekend when he pulled it up. ;)

For the windy days, the box anchor has still been the best. I'm really starting to wonder why I still have the fluke on my boat. The only time it holds well is when it snags a stump.

Yamaha sells the Danforth S600, as it's 'deluxe anchor'.
I bought and use it.
Only sketchy holding I've had is in Bimini, with the near solid mass bottom off the flipped airplane and Sapona. Basically got lucky on some kelp.
What I like. It fits in bow storage with no impact on my hull/fiberglass, as it hangs in locker.
What I don't like. Takes 4-5:1 scope to set and hold well.

My perfect solution is to keep my Danforth where it is (4' chain, 150' line) and find a way to hang the small box anchor (and 150'+ line) from it.
I can't afford to give up more storage (Have X so have lost a lot to ballast already.) and would like the option of anchors, or to use both (fwd & stern).

Anyone try something like this on a '15+ 242?

Tell me about it lol. I just bought a new boat and I'm blaming it on this site. I really should terminate my internet as soon as I get the boat home. :D
