Buying a Boat This Week...What Do I need?

Thank you for posting that! One of the "arguments" I used with my wife to justify a jet boat is the ease of maintenance and relatively low costs. Except for the first one after (used) purchase where I wanted a dealer who knew the boats to go over it I've done ALL the maintenance so far and am...

Buying a Boat This Week...What Do I need?

Definitely wait on the SeaDek - Will/JetboatPilot often has a group buy/sale in the off season. I boat in brackish and salt water so I'm obsessive about it but you may also still want to consider some more specialized lubricant spray - I use Boeshield T-9, there's another one (by CRC, I think?)...

Buying a Boat This Week...What Do I need?

One per person minimum by law. Personally, I'm not a fan of kits... And the type of lifejackets you carry will also depend on what you're going to do. For example, "jacket" ones are best for watersports/towing but technically the old "keyhole" ones that you can buy for dirt meet the rules if all...

    It's confirmed - no more 24'

WRT the rear loungers, from the photos on Yamahaboats.com they're on the 252 models but not on the SX/AR250s... Bummer.

Buying a Boat This Week...What Do I need?

@djtech2k when it comes to life jackets, you'll have to think long about possible riders on the boat and sizes - not just immediate family but that friend of a friend that doesn't fit the 2XL jacket or the opposite, the little kid that's smaller than any you know. I think in the end we've ended...

Tower or No Tower?? Is one needed for water sports???

I was reading this thread and wanted to add exactly that: Consider also anything you might have to go under... If we head south from our place, we're good. If we go north, we're screwed with three low bridges to go under. So SX240 for us and the bimini stays down until we get past them.

Screwed up and found the sand bar.

@Scottintexas , thought you might be interested in the follow up... Your advice was spot on! Pulled both thermostats - easy to do but would have been even easier if they weren't at the BACK of the engines. Both had some silt on them which was disappointing. One was operational and the other was...

    No jet propulsion

Make sure the plugs are properly seated - they may look seated but be sitting on top of where they should be. Yank on them without pushing the release button to test. BTW: we've all done this at some point or another...! That "why is this not moving??" moment.

    Scuba stories.

Oh, yeah, night dive on the Great Barrier Reef from a live aboard. An amazing amount of sea life around (and yeah, again there were moments when you'd move the flashlight and realize a shark was about a yard away from you... That was also a SHORT dive! I'd say my worst dive experience though...

    Scuba stories.

My wife, daughter, and I are AOW and my son is for now just Open Water. Our daughter started it when she was 14 (some 15 years ago) and wanted to scuba and my wife thought no way we're letting her go off on a boat full of strangers on her own. So she got certified, and then our son and I thought...

Advice for setting up a new trailer?

What about just doubling up the existing bunks? That would give it a wider contact area... And as far as getting it off the trailer at the ramp goes, honestly I solve that by going farther down the ramp but yours may be one of the crappy shallow ones that is sloped so gently that you'd be in...

Advice for setting up a new trailer?

@Chewiem16 I had the same thought, comparing the vertical bunks to the horizontal ones on the factory Shorelander I sure like the horizontal option better. The load would certainly be better spread on horizontal but gave up on the idea though - I think they'd have to be reinforced (T shape) to...

Screwed up and found the sand bar.

Thanks @Scottintexas - hadn't thought about the thermostat. Makes sense. Will pull it next week end. Yeah, did run it - not flat out but up to about 5500 rpm for about 5 minutes and all was clear. Total running was about an hour after "The incident" and then 20 minutes on the hose. I hope that's...

Screwed up and found the sand bar.

So, we set off for a boat ride and dinner m heading south to Ocean City. Found crappy weather so decided to turn back north and explore an area where we'd not been before. (And here I keep thinking about how someone pointed out to me when I was learning to fly that accident sequences often come...

Advice for setting up a new trailer?

@Chewiem16 sorry about the late reply but I've been swamped and not spending the usual hours on the forum...! I ended up sticking with the Venture COM-5300. Also, your post made me realize that I never posted the "after" pictures. And I did end up moving it forward a couple more inches for a...

How to replace Reverse Gate cable

If you get the Amazon cables, before you start feeding the new cable check the lengths of the ends of the new cable vs the old one. I have a 2012 SX240 and the part # is different from the 2011 boats - but the number stamped on the side of the cable is the same. And the # stamped on the ACTUAL...

Mission Impossible: Finding a 2020 242S on the east coast...

FWIW, we bought ours with a painted trailer and even using it only a couple of times a season to put the boat in and take it out (lives on a lift during the season and indoor storage in the off season) the thing was turning to crap within 3 or 4 years. When I was (used) boat shopping we factored...
