Where did your screename come from??

My grandkids call me bumpa and bumpy; I was already bumpa on the 'Other' forum, so bumpy it was.

    Bad towing experiences

I went out by myself on my lake to help a deck boat that wouldn't start; they threw me a rope but by the time I got it fastened the wind pushed us too close to each other and some rocks and when I restarted my outboard the rope wrapped the prop and stalled the boat. I freed my prop and another...

    Late Winterization Freak Out

Never ran anti freeze in my Yamaha; the engines are self draining. I live in Mass. on the NH border and it gets very cold, and never had any issues. You are fine; relax!

Has anyone ran this through their engine coming out of winterization to start new season ?

I use Startron in all my gas; 10% Ethanol is all I can get and Startron is supposed to help with phase separation leaving water in the tank. Seams to work for the last 15 years.

    White stern light

Try searching for 'tow point light'. A member here made a kit to put a choice of wired or wireless all around light on the tower tow point.

For those who live at the lake with your own dock/slip...

I have always (more than 25 years) left our boats in the water at our dock for the whole April-October season except when we went for a week or two to a bigger lake or the ocean. I've always regretted not covering when I neglected the chore!

    Warmest Cold Weather Jacket (Ladies)?

My wife has an earlier version of this : OutDry Ex™ Alta Peak™ Down Jacket | 010 | XL she loves how warm she stays on the lift when we ski in NH and ME.

    Buyers Remorse

I agree with putting fins on; I think they made a huge difference to me and I had been an I/O owner for 20 years before the 242. The difference in yearly maintenance is truly astounding; jets are so simple to maintain its' ridiculous. No lower unit oil/water pump, easy engine access for plug...

240/242 Head is it really usable for other than the kids?????

We used the porta potty in our 24'; not super comfy but still usable. We won't own a boat without at least a porta potty. We had a Four Winns deck boat that had a porta potty rigged with a hose and deck fitting for pump out; we were told that New Hampshire required that set-up to prevent folks...

    Bittersweet day

I feel your pain; our 242 was the easily the funnest (is that even a word?!) boat we have owned. For us, our shallow home dock made the decision to move to an outboard a no brainer, but I'll always remember the fun factor!

    Sold the Yamaha

Beautiful boat! If you are like me, you may miss some of the fun factor that the Yamaha has when pulling tubes or just driving crazy. But, our new boat is way more practical for our shallow dock and future Intercoastal plans. Enjoy!

    Mat melting from sun reflection....

We had similar damage on our swim platform from the reflections from the rear table mount. We considered scotch-brighting the surface to dull it; never did it though. It would have reduced the reflection but I'm not sure it would be enough.

    Portable toilets in a 242

McMaster Carr sells 2" wide industrial type hook and loop strips; we used that on the porta potti in our 242 and it held in the biggest chop (2-3') we were in; worked well for 7 years. The current boat has a Thetford with a slide bracket and it works great.

Anchoring system for overnight boat camping

So, I learned a technique (Bahamian moor) that can help forgive the long rode requirement a little; when we anchor in a tidal river we put 1 full size anchor/chain with 7X rode length upstream and another 180 degrees apart downstream both attached to the bow. The boat will essentially swing...

    Need Fuel transfer pump

I use a replacement fuel line with the squeeze bulb; the bulb starts the flow and with the gas can higher than the hose end in the boat gas fill the gas siphons itself into the tank. Easy.

    What is this?

I've been seeing this on the tie out posts and dock uprights; now its on my outboard and hull. We're in north central Mass. I've been on the lake since 61; I've never seen this before. Can anyone tell me what it is? Aliens?

Dealership left oil cap off after 10 hour service

I did this to myself! I didn't tighten it enough (I guess??!!) and never found the damn thing. I found a replacement on Amazon, I think, and cleaned up the mess. Never happened again, because I triple checked them both after every oil change/add!
