Rotax engine substitute oil filter ?

Hey Mike, I took your advice and ordered a couple of these filters off Amazon for my Vortex, and they are extremely nice OEM filters, thank you. One point however, they do not come with O-rings at all like your post suggested, I'm about to put in an order for the O-rings separately I suppose...

Gas not filling up all the way

The internal fill hose enters the fuel tank in the rear, to get the tank full you need to lower your bow of your boat while filling, so the hose is entering at the "top" of the tank. If you drop the bow a bit, you can get it filled completely up, and it will read 98% or more when you put it in...

    Navionics on Medallion

When I have the map showing, it shows surveyed lake depths on the map, and current actual depth the boat is reading in the lower left corner, at same time. No, it's not overlaid on the map, but it's an inch away. Does yours not do this?

    203 VRX Woes

Boattest.com got 44mph out of a 203 with a single 250, which seems about right. You should be able to get above 40 all day long unless way weighed down, something is definitely amiss.

SKI DOCK - Austin / My Service experience

Yes, Chaparral, Tige, Yamaha dealer in Austin, TX.

SKI DOCK - Austin / My Service experience

Well, damn. I didn't buy my Chap at Ski Dock due to them sucking during the sales process, but I was hoping their service dept was decent, ugh. I did buy it at Marineland, which also has a bad service strike above, lol. Anywhere within driving distance I can take my Chap if needed for warranty...

Chaparral Vortex 243 VRX Dealer Video

So you were able to ascertain all these things simply from a dealer video? Interesting. Let me tell you what I discovered by actually demoing both on a lake for several hours. The Chap is quite superior to the Yamaha in most regards, in fact, by a long shot in many. I went into the tests 100%...

    Destroyed Boat

Lmao, damn! Perfect example of two phenomenon - target fixation, and the fact that jet boats don't turn well when you back off the throttle, lol.

Scarab 165 HOI tower warning label

I had the same warning on my 2005 Malibu Wakesetter tower, and I pulled inflatables all summer long for 10 years, and never a single problem. Not huge 6-person tubes, but normal 1-2 person toys. There are other things to consider besides just strength of the tower. Since the tow point is so...

    Chaparral Vortex 203VRX

A single-jet will always struggle more pulling up a skier, only so much water a single jet can move, even if you have the big 250 engine. The 203 is available with twin 150s, which is much better, but few dealers offer that option, and it bumps the price up a bit. Jet boats do not have pretty...

Need some opinions/review of Jet Dock vs Lift vs Boatel

Data point. A couple months back I had a 6600# brand-new Hydrohoist Ultra-lift-II installed for $7850, which included the lift, install, taxes. I've seen them go a bit cheaper, but Austin, TX area is somewhat high for TX. A 6600# lift is way more than enough for any 25' or less Jet Boat. The...

I'm contemplating making a DIY speed control system

Not sure on the lawsuit part, but what you state here was one huge reason I felt a letdown the first time I demo'd a new Yamaha 242 Limited-S ($$$). The boat IS advertised with several "cruise control" features, but in all honesty, it has none. The first time I accelerated, set the "cruise"...

New WaverRunner vs New Boat break-in times.

Apologies, misread the model of your boat. Thought you said "VRX" which is a Chaparral model with BRP, hence my response.

New WaverRunner vs New Boat break-in times.

I believe the Rotax engine package limits your RPM and power during the first 20 hours, and slowly lets you use more RPM, until reaching 20 hours, where the first service is supposed to take place. That section of the manual is "first time break in", as in your very first trip to the lake. I...

Does anyone else think that Super Bowl 51 was staged / scripted?

Not a fan of either team, but Ryan was downright Romo-esque in that 2nd half, lol. Play great all year, then choke it away when the final chips are down. (taking sacks, fumbling it away, etc.) Awesome game, love it like that when my team isn't playing, lol.

Buying 215, how to identify engines.. 200hp or 250hp?

Alan is correct, easiest way is to look for the external intercooler, which is the silver metal device in the center top of his photo, with the hoses going in/out of it. Only the 250HP has that.

question for those who wet slip their boats

At my marina there is a pretty huge jump as you go up in size, plus availability is limited, so I'm in a 10x24, with a 6600 lb Hydrohoist. I had a 25-foot Sea-Ray bow-rider (8'6" beam) in there, and honestly wasn't a problem. The swim platform hung out the back a foot or 18" depending on how I...
