‘24-‘25 255XD What to look out for

2 issues I had with mine was anchor locker lid opening up randomly. I think Yamaha uses crappy piano hinges that cause this lid to move while hitting waves. Eventually, I will replace those hinges, I believe someone did that on the forum.
Other issue was gelcoat crack on the driver side next to the front window. Dealer did repair it and apparently that crack was pretty deep.
Minor stuff it that subwoofer mounted to close to the floor and sea deck mat doesn't clip properly and backside is always lifted a bit.

I used a couple of small pieces of weather striping around the head compartment door in response to the rubbing at the top.

Watch out for the triangular piece of trim around the storage compartment behind the captain's chair. I had someone stick a too-big bag in there, and when they pulled it out it pulled the plastic trim which stripped one of the screws. Fixed once, then happened again the next summer. Bad design there.
I've got a 24 255XE and that compartment behind the captain's chair gets wet? Is that supposed to be dry? The hose is connected from the cup holder so I don't see how it can get wet? Have you or anyone seen that?

I noticed mine was a little damp and I had a couple things mildew between trips. I threw a couple of silica packs from a package I received in there and have not had a problem since.

I have never noticed moisture in there. I assumed that it is supposed to stay dry since it has that "carpet" inside. Will specifically check after the next couple times we go out and report back if there's water/moisture.

Thanks. I've looked everywhere to see why its not drying. Not sure if there is water coming in from the tower?? Anyway put a damp rid in there and will see if it dries out now.

If you have power where you store your boat, buy a cheap box fan and run it under the cover with your hatches and seats open (prop open the front seats). That way everything is always dry and mildew free when you store and go to use it next.

So far I haven’t noticed that compartment getting wet. Only have 3hrs on the thing so far tho

Next major issue I’m delving into is the subwoofer output. It’s next to nothing, like a 1995 cavalier probably has more base.

WHO IN THE F THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE NON-ADJUSTABLE AMPS??? That leaves little to no troubleshooting ability. Just replace it Yamaha. And c’mon wetsounds, you should be better than this…

And then there’s the 8” range for the Bluetooth connectivity… wtf mates

Been doing some searching, but if anyone can share a thread where someone has done a complete stereo overhaul on a 255xd or similar please share.

In our big boat, fusion head units, wetsounds amps, JL speakers/sub. Great setup. Actually had to go sit in the big boat on the trailer and crank tunes after listening to terrible Yamaha stereo

Anyone else have issues with the passenger side “cabin” door opening in its own during towing?

Anyone have a picture how how their sound bar is mounted?
Yes and it's super hard to close and lock. Terrible design

While I have the boat in by the dealer for some cosmetic warranty work I told them to check out the subwoofer. The thing BARELY makes and sounds and they’re telling me it’s working fine. I told them we’ll listen together when I come to pick it up. I’ve installed plenty of boat stereos and there’s no way that’s how it should work. The amp is crap. Comical.

Yamaha knows something is up because I was sent a replacement subwoofer, but it made no difference.

Wonder if anyone else is having issues.

Go to zone control put all vocal zones no higher than 75% as low as 50%. and sub zone 100%

I thought the same thing until I took it to my sound guy. He said they had my amps set on basically zero. He took off the plate and maximized my sound and I got to tell you I had the best sounding stereo out there

By took off the plate do you mean take the whole aluminum cover off and basically disassemble the amp? I can do that but don’t want to pull it out, take it apart to find out there’s still nothing to adjust.

Never paid attention to it but stored stuff in there assuming it was dry.
Recently opened and everything was wet there.
First issue I discovered was that the zip ties are useless. Putting new ones was a pain and did not help.
Eventually, got hose clamps and it was a pain to install it with one hand.
drewkaree had awesome suggestion to use butterfly clamps

After that I was still finding moisture in that compartment and saw that cupholder itself was cracked.

Pulled it out by twisting silver ring and unscrewing it. Partzilla wanted something like $14 for the cupholder (F2J-U5633-00-00) plus shipping.
by pulling it out saw that it is ITC manufacturers and they sell 2 for $16.99 plus shipping.

Other places that water can come in is only where that top is secured through 6 holes.

So far replacing cupholder and hose clamps helped.
If I see more moisture I may need to unscrew it and put some silicone around those 6 holes.

Thanks for posting this. When I took delivery of my 252, it was pouring that evening, and I noticed the compartment was soaked the following morning. I checked the drainage line, and it appeared to be in tack, so I figured it might have been water that worked its way into the compartment during the tow home (was unable to put the cover on due to the weather). I’ll have to keep an eye on it, but love the suggestion of the butterfly clamps!

Mine is a 25 255xd with a Hertz system. He just took the cover blade off the amps right on the front and adjusted them like they were supposed to be. They did have some kind of tape over the adjustment so they could tell if you did anything to them. I guess for warranty, but I told him to take that off. I don't give a crap. I just want a good sound
