1996 Sugar Sand Mirage Won’t fire

Just bought the boat ( july 2020). After gasing up at the dock, I put it in reverse and it almost immediately shut off. Will crank but not fire up. Sprayed ether in the carbs but did not get ignition. Sound familiar to anyone? Ran great the previous weekend.
