I have the Mercury M2 210HP motor. When they put it back in the water last week, the service manager at our marina said they had a hard time starting the motor. The starter would spin, but it would not pop up. He took the starter apart, cleaned it, and got it to work, but recommended that it be replaced to avoid any future issues. He quoted the repair at $250.

It looks like you can buy M2 compatible starters on-line for $75-120 depending upon the retailer. Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace it?

I know that starters are typically held in place by a couple of bolts and have a power wire going to them. Is it that simple in an M2?

Not to resurect this thread from the dead, but did you ever figure it out? Did you have issues removing the starter after removing the bolts and wire?
