HI, does anyone know what the issue my be on my Yamaha, I went to Don Pedro Lake and my boat over heat engine light turns On. this is the second time that happens, if any one here can help me out how to fix this problem i will be glad appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Check the water inlet strainer on both pumps. Are the "pissers" working? Could be a stuck thermostat. I had that from some corrosion. Did it shut down or give a light?

check for water in your oil milk shake colored oil
check for debri in the pump little sticks can be hard to see and create cavitation
some of the sensors do go bad over time

If you were motoring in shallow water, less that three feet below the bottom of your hull, you may have sucked up sand into the cooling system. Without overheating the engine, I would try to run it on the water at a moderate rpm(7000). That may help flush out the sand. Regular flushing will not remove it.

Actually the Over heating light turn ON.both pissers are working, fine. do you know where the thermostat is located thinking about replacing them on each one of the engines.

Looking at the mr-1 ho it is at the top and to the left. I won't be home until late tonight but hopefully someone can throw a picture on here?

There are 2 sets of pilots(pissers). One set is at midship, and one is at stern. If you have water coming out of pilots at stern, your thermostats are working. any way here are diagrams of thermostat exits(17) and pilots(18) and thermostat(47).

The Oil looks clean.

Use IR thermometer. Run engine on hose. Start checking cylinder temps above manifold where it attaches to block. If temp reads near 200F, cooling passages are blocked by that cylinder.

Most of the time it's the thermostats I had the same problem on my 03 sr230 I started changing them every year

Thank you, I will start doing the same it won’t hurts to do that too.

thanks a gain

Every year?! Seems excessive but would keep ya on the water i guess! Salt water will corrode them quick without adequate flushing .

They are easy to remove and clean.

...and test.

Is it really overheating or just saying it is because Yamaha heat sensors were notorious for going bad and causing overheat warnings I had one replaced under warranty after I determined it was faulty but I did all the tests like temp readings etc.

If my SX190 is showing over heating sign and getting oil leak could that be thermostat not operating correctly? Based on the oil leaks it Is actually overheating

Is water coming out of the pisser on the side of the boat when your cruising?

It could be overheating because of low oil. Have you looked for the oil leak/checked the oil level? Typically an overheating engine does not causes an oil leak.
