Seems like you already have someone that does.

If it makes you feel better tell yourself that you are paying him for what he knows not what he is doing.

Why do you need both engines replaced? Where do you plan to source them? If Money is a concern the cost is high enough that it might be worth it for you to get the shop manual and follow instructions very closely if you are so mechanically inclined. $8500 is quite a bit of Money. Is he rebuilding the engines or just installing? What's wrong with them?

Certainly those engines are very well known in the PWC world. Check out other jet ski shops in your area to see other alternatives too. Best of luck!

HIS EST WAS OVER $14000.00

I know this isn’t the answer you want but 18 hours to swap an engine isn’t crazy. It’s going to take a few hours just to unbolt everything and the better part of a day to clean gaskets and swap everything to the new block. Another four hours to put it back in the boat, align the shaft and deal with misc. loose ends. More time dealing with corroded connections and 15 years of bubba wiring. Thats if everything goes well and nothing is stuck or seize. And then water test.

15-18 hours goes by pretty fast. A good shop will offer a short warranty so that also needs to be accounted for. The only thing that seems high is the hourly rate, but that’s a function of where you live. That it is a few weeks before your boating season doesn’t help either.

The older four stroke jet boats (Yamaha too) are basically worth what the engines are worth. It will cost 10-12k for a Yamaha shop to put a new long block in (parts included) so your 7k labor quote per engine along with 3k for an SBT reman seems in the ball park.

Interestingly NADA puts your speedster in good running condition at $14k
