So I bought my first boat two days ago, took it out yesterday and everything seems to run and work except for when I'm at speed, the steering is so stiff that my wife can barely turn the boat. It turns both left and right, but it's as if you lost the power steering in your car. Turns freely at idle. I was hoping someone here has experienced this, or has an idea on how to fix, what to pursue? Thanks.

I was going to say you need to lubricate your steering cable, but if it turns freely at idle, that's a little odd. Are there any mods done to the jet nozzle? Picture?

Thanks for your reply. The only mod I know of is they mentioned that there were some sort of stabilizing rudders installed to minimize 'drifting'. I will get some good pics and post later. Thanks!

That's why I asked. That's your answer. Many people install these to help with slow speed maneuvering. Many designs now come out of the way at speed to avoid your issue. I bet yours are some sort of older design that doesn't or are stuck down. But either way, that's what's causing it.

Man, it's so cumbersome that I can't imagine anyone tolerating it. OK, I should be able to easily remove it and try it out. Thanks.
