Hello, I’m new to the boating world as I just purchased my first boat (2011 Yamaha SX 240) and I’m also new to the site so I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong section. I had the boat surveyed by a professional company near by where I live and everything checked out great except expired flares, horn not working, and the bilge pump not working when he turned the switch on. So I guess my question for all of you is, will the bilge pump work without detecting water? The survey was done in my driveway with the plug out so it was absolutely bone dry.

I would suggest you pull the bilge pump..If it's a Rule there are tabs on each side. The mount stays in place. Check the filter and clean out if necessary. Reinstall. Close the drain plug. Fill the bilge up about 30% of the height of the bilge pump. Turn on the bilge pump switch...it should drain out the starboard side. If it works then pull the drain plug to drain the boat the rest of the way. I always try to pull the drain with the boat facing up a hill. If it doesn't work, read some of the other posts on the site including the FAQ. Many of us also install a backup/secondary bilge pump hardwired to the battery for redundancy.
