2014 Audi Q5 / 65k miles, loved the way it drove, handling/acceleration like a sports car,

a few days ago after a heavy rain and cold nights (23F) my steering wheel felt like I was losing power steering, very heavy to turn, no drifting or notchiness in the wheel though, It seemed to go away the next day but has come back again with lows only in the 40'sF. I think I recall feeling this same thing months ago but it went away within the day and I forgot about it.

I've read the SQ5 had a steering recall and multiple issues with earlier models, I believe my model has electronic controlled steering (I couldn't figure out why I couldn't check the power steering fluid!)

just wondering /hoping/ somebody ( @veedubtek ) might know something about it before I spend $3k for a new steering rack and module,
I found this on the internet ( post #11 )of someone saying it was a contact issue but no further advice,

The only issue I've seen on those is the intermediate steering shaft likes to get real right. Not hard to remove. Pop it off and see how well the 2 u-joints swivel. I've *heard* of the rack issues, but haven't seen one myself and believe it to be pretty rare.

thanks, took it to my local independent VW/Mercedes guy yesterday, he said it drove like an Audi and didn't notice anything unusual,

at that time it didn't have the "heavy" feeling anymore but I thought it still didn't feel "right" but by that time I could have been over analyzing it,

I'm going to keep driving it and see if I can document better when exactly it happens and I'll have him look at the U-joint swivel,

Thanks, I really appreciate the input,

.
