I bought a used 2016 242 SE and of course some problems I'm trying to fix. Major one is the stereo system! Previous owner had from the looks of it a major upgrade, but then decided to remove much of it at some time. I'm just trying to get back to a six speaker system. 2 speakers in bow, 2 in cabin, 2 at the swim deck. All are Wetsounds Revo Speakers. And also some small factory tweeters overhead in the rack. I still have the Polk Audio model PA4A stereo that was stock with the boat. Here's my problem: That system has 4 sets of wires coming out of it for speakers. One question is, are those outputs amped? I was told they were. Then there are 2 more sets of RCA wires, and I have RCA wire going toward the front of the boat, starboard side under the steering console. I was told the RCA were not amped or powered. Second question: If they're not amped was there a factory amp somewhere toward the front, to power maybe the front speakers?

I just got a (new to us) 2016 242 SE too. Out on the water for the first time yesterday and I’d like to just dispense with the stereo portion on the connect system. It defaults to FM and I can’t connect Bluetooth devices to it. I think I’ll put (round) Kicker head unit in at the dash cup holder and build from there. Going to put a 100ah lithium battery in the stbd compartment to power the amps and all. I like this E series boat over all but the stereo system sucks.

So can you tell me what is stock? Does it have a subwoofer or just the 6 main speakers? Is everything powered off of the Connect system? Mine appears to have RCA wires going to the front as if a separate amp or sub went there. Just trying to figure out what is original and what has been added?

Stock on a 16 242 or 240 was a Polk audio PA4A system with its remote master in the stern and the power unit behind the helm

The 242X has the same PA4A system but with 2 polk audio amps first thing you need to check is if the swim deck remote knob works. They put it in a terrible spot thinking it was water proof and if its failed you loose ability to add or remove Bluetooth devices and maybe other things depending how bad it is. wiring diagram for the pa4a I would use amplifiers if the previous owner had power and ground run. If your on a budget look for a 5 or 6 channel used car audio amp. Did the previous owner have a subwoofer ?

Yeah, the previous owner had a subwoofer. I could tell because in total there was 6 batteries, and they put a hole/vent (but nicely done) in the back compartment I would assume for the subwoofer to properly work under the seat.
I'll have to check out the Commander unit to make sure it works. The boat is in the shop right now having some engine work done. When it gets out, I've got speakers going in. I've got a Wetsounds 6 channel amp that will power the 6 speakers for the boat. Then I've got a Wetsounds self powered/enclosed sub that will come off the Polk Unit. At least that's the plan!
