Has anyone figured out a way to make the seats in the 2020 (and probably later models) not a wobbly mess. Cant for the life of me figure out why yamaha would allow this past quality control. I know i can just buy new stuff and throw more money at the issue, but was curious if anyone figured out how to actually fix it or if it can even been fixed at all. its not a bad design, just wobbles around and generally feels very lose, almost broken.

My '17 wobbles badly if the knob on the side isn't tight. It's acceptable with it tightened.

Have to loosen the knob to rotate/slide the chair but it's worth it for a less wobbly seat.

I changed ours over to an 242 captains chair. Better comfort, still wobbles. Tighten that side knob, it helps a little.

Figure out where the actual wobble is coming from.

Some have seen the base of the post come loose from the base that is screwed to the deck. Others have flipped the chair over to find either missing screws or missing the HDP piece that goes into that tension mechanism. In other words, the plastic that allows the chair to rotate, even under tension.

The tension screw should have nothing to do with sliding the chair forward or back. That has always been a separate mechanism, but things may have changed.

Good luck!

Ive already went over the chair and looked around a bit, and its fine if i tighten the knob down. but i rotate the seat quite a bit and i hate having to adjust it all the time. so it stays loose. just seems like the entire chair is poorly designed. but i guess thats what ya get for buying the basic bitch model boat. lol ill probably just swap out the base one of these days.

Yeah, I have a 2018 242 and it's the same way. Coming from a Sea Ray whose seats didn't budge one bit, these were a little disappointing. In fact I find the whole sliding/turning adjustable mechanism to be pretty cheap. I may replace the entire chair.

which one is that. any other pics. ive been thinking of getting one that has a lift shock in it so im not using the flip up cushion all the time.

There are plenty that work. Mine is the Springfield mentioned in this super long thread we had last year:

You can use just about any post with the same dimensions. Just understand, you may be drilling and tapping new holes in your floor, as it's tough to match them up, and you may shear a couple off taking the old base out. Not to worry, drilling and tapping aluminum is the easiest project you will ever do.

Good luck!
