Through my recent vehicle shopping I’ve discovered that the 2024 Wrangler can now tow 5k, but only certain configurations. Basically it seems the limiting factor has been the rear axle. It doesn’t have the strength to handle the load of the tow and drive line torque. They added a full floating axle this year which removes the tow load from the axle by placing it on the axle case. This axle is only available on a Rubicon and the engine has to be the 2.0 four or the 3.6 six to get the 5k tow rating. I’ve only been looking at the 4 door Unlimited, so don’t know if it applies to the 2 door, and don’t now if/how it may change the Gladiator, which can already do 7k or 7.5k in certain configs.

Wrangler?

The Gladiator uses a different rear suspension already, so it won't change its tow capacity.
