@David Analog I created a thread to keep from Hijacking @redthumper9 's thread.

Not to infringe on this thread you can always start another.
Several issues.
The Kicker is not a true infinite baffle subwoofer. It's kind of a middle of the road 'Q' woofer. Jack of all trades, master of none. Sounds much better in a sealed box, not so much in a ported box, and definitely not infinite baffle. It will sound decent and get low used in IB at lower power levels. But at higher power levels it essentially becomes undamped with less control, hence the vibration that is transmitted through the boat structure.
The fiberglass wall needs to be in the realm of 0.5" thick to be an adequately rigid baffle.
The woofer is mounted outside the boundaries of the cockpit bathtub so the bass energy is really flash evaporating with only a small portion benefiting the cockpit occupants....so big losses....although I'm sure it is nice sitting in the bow.

Haha... Yeah I am going to leave it connected because I love the RGB lights on it, I have a small 200 w amp from this kit http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KUaYdI...Bass-Package-White-KFC-W250MRW-subwoofer.html... I think I will just mount a Wet Sounds xs-10-fa sub behind the captains chair and power it with 300w from my HT-6 channels 5 and 6. Do you have any experience and would that be sufficient to power a sub and sound good? I always get compliments on how good my 4 Rev8's sound, but occasionally get asked where the bass is and it irritates the shit out of me....

A Carolina rig lizard usually adds bass to my boat!

PaulyB,
Yes, not all 200 watt amplifers are built the same and that is a particularly weak 200 watt Kenwood subwoofer amplifier, not to mention that the fixed crossover point is wrong for the application. The existing Kicker subwoofer, even in a mismatched IB application and a compromised location, will sound infinitely better with quality power from a new amplifier.
Get with Odin @ Earmark Marine as he is an authorized on-line Wetsounds and JL Audio dealer, knows this category exceptionally well, and can steer you in the right direction on product choices, installation techniques, and system tuning.

However, I'm not sure if Odin has any association with Carolina rig lizards.

Yeah I figured it wasnt the best amp to push the kicker, but figured if I just wanted to throw 75 watts at the sub, it would at least give it a little low end, and not make the speaker totally useless just to be sitting there and not working. I may try to hook it up to see how it sounds and if I dont like it just take it back out. We will see, but it looks like I am for sure going to go to the Wet Sounds 10 inch Sub powered by 300 watts and hopefully it will make a difference...
