I wet slipped our SX190 in fresh water for the first time this summer. Now that I've pulled the boat to winterize I see the anode was definitely doing its job but also the edge of the black plate (at least the finish) under the jet drive on the anode side also shows the wear.
Normal or not? If not, what can I do in the future to help the issue?

Having it in a slip really helped us get out more! Every weekend & a couple days during the week.

Wet slipped in fresh water? Pictures of what you're seeing would help.

Is there power at this and neighboring slips? I'm thinking there may be stray voltage leaking while people are plugged in. You can actually check this using a volt meter set to a low AC range. The Thrust Vector allan head bolt looks off color also. Not sure if they are stainless or aluminum but could be caused by the same issue.

There is usually an extension cord running from the pole on land to the boat next to me. He must have a charger onboard. That is the only electric I've seen.
The Thrust Vector bolt doesn't look dis colored in person like it does in the picture.
Late in the season the slips are full of weeds to the surface also. I actually push out clear of the slip before starting the engine. Sounds terrible, I know, but it really is a nice marina for a 900 acre lake.image.jpeg

This review of the 2007 SX230 states that the pumps arr made of a zinc and copper alloy. I believe the current pumps use the same material.

http://www.topspeed.com/boats/yamaha/2007-yamaha-sx230-high-output-ar36280.html

"Pumps are Manufactured with YDC30: A combination of zinc and copper alloys, developed by Yamaha marine engineers, that offers excellent corrosion protection."

Until I read that review I assumed that the pumps were aluminum. I would think this alloy would make them into very large anodes.

I'm assuming the best I can do for it is just clean it up and touch up the finish. it is only on the side where the anode is. I have the anode on order and am going to put Cobra Venom Ultimates with fangs on just to see if there is any difference between them and the TVs. Thanks for the great service Jeff!

It is rough but it may only be finish. I'll be able to tell better once I try to clean it up.
I haven't got to the inside of the pump tunnel yet but back at the grates it looks good as does the other side of the pump. There is still plenty of anode left but I tend to be a change it before it needs it type!

The last two seasons with this boat have been great! It had been a lot of years since I spent time on the lake and my wife had never boated before. I had talked about it and she thought I was nuts. One day we were at the waterfront Tiki bar and she said I want to be out there. I bought it sight unseen from the closest dealer two hours away on my cellphone while we sat at the tiki that day (I had done a little research online but had never seen a Yamaha in person). Had the hitch installed two days later and went and picked it up. Best decision ever! We spend every moment possible on the lake and have added a waverunner for giggles.

I have read this forum daily since we bought the boat but I have not posted much. Time to change that. I do my own maintenance and detailing based on what I have learned here. Thanks to all from my wife and I.

That anode is perfectly fine, just make sure the mounting points are secure.

My anodes are 10 years old and still have plenty of life. I boat exclusively in salt water but the boat never sees more than a few days at a stretch in the water. The anodes don't need replacing until 50% worn. Stray current can wear them prematurely though. That's why I suggested that in my previous post.

@Brent Gaidosh I love your story of how you decided to get back into boating. Life's too short to just sit on the sidelines and watch others have all the fun. Glad that you found us and welcome to the club ;)

Thank you, it's great to be here.

The best part about that story is it is absolutely true!

Thank you for all the advice. I'll leave this anode until half gone and clean the area up.

Remember you need magnesium anodes for fresh water and try adding one to each ride plate as well as each pump

That's a good point. My ride played have their own anode installed from the factory. Do the newer boats have the same?

I see a lot of round ones like I use and mounted like I mount them but I have no idea if those were placed on by a dealer, owner or factory. However the ride plate is a good place for one and in this case I believe it will help his situation but it needs to be magnesium. I mount them on the pump the ride plate and the back of the trailer.

It seems like a good idea to at least get something on the ride plate.
